Malaysian officials believe that the flu entered the country from Thailand and have stepped up border controls, seizing thousands of live and frozen smuggled chickens.

When are these countries going to get serious about H5N1? It's not like
it was discovered yesterday. As far as border controls are concerned there
is probably a lot of bribery involved.

The pandemic will probably link to Vietnam or Thailand. Both of these countries have endemic H5N1 populations that produce 70-80% case mortality rates

which can produce some major challenges.

Singapore has already banned imports, but the problem will be with migrating birds. H5N1 has already been detected in Russia and the birds from the north will be passing through Singapore
