hey Berkeleygal! I know pretty much nothing about this volcano. I am on my way out though...do you have any quick links on info regarding the risk level involved with this volcano??

Thanks for the heads up!

I`m so glad you noticed the second "area of action". I noticed it as soon as the sun came up on Sakurajima today.

This volcano is never boring.... I watch it every day, and it can be so calm and serene then suddenly wakes up.

This new development will be interesting to watch.

Thanks for alerting to this, BG!!!

Good catch, I think there's going to be more of this real soon. Things seem to be heating up on the ole "Ring of Fire." Speaking of which, good signature, the last Johnny Cash verse of "The Highwayman" when he was playing with Kris, Waylon and Willie.

Cheers - Dave

Sakurajima (桜島?), also romanized as Sakurashima or Sakura-jima,[1] is an active composite volcano (stratovolcano) and a former island (now connected to the mainland) of the same name in Kagoshima Prefecture in Kyūshū, Japan. The lava flows of the 1914 eruption caused the former island to be connected with the Osumi Peninsula.[2]

Seems like they are moving the camera around quite a bit, but at least the clouds are clear as of right now. Impressive plume for sure
