To those who don't understand what they 'claim' they did...
Pornography and gore was posted on Facebook. Once clicked, a users computer is compromised. It does two things
1.) It reposts the same image in hopes that someone on the persons computers friendslist also clicks the link. This way more people are infected without having to be friends with the original source.
2.) It stays on their computer enabling the persons in control to form a botnet. This is a massive collection of infected computers that can be controlled from a single source.

What is the purpose of this? It's how they perform their DDoS attacks. In simple terms...
All of the computers within the botnet are ordered to all go to a certain website at the same time. This overloads the websites servers forcing them to run slowly and eventually stop. This is how they "take down websites" for short periods of time.

Basically what this tells me is that their 'project mayhem' is to take down a few websites for a day or so. On a 1-10 scale in the Hacker world this is about a 1 1/2. Very basic and juvenile. Explains my theory that the majority of 'anonymous' is 11-14 year olds.

Even their "takedown" of the child pornography websites was extremely simple to do. All they did was got help from Mozilla in creating a file that logs IPs of the computers downloading the child porn and send it to them. All someone has to do to avoid getting on their list is to use a proxy(This is not to educate you disgusting people, this is to educate ATS members. I do NOT condone the harming of children in any way). After they obtained the IPs they did their simple DDoS attack to 'take down' the websites which are probably back up already.

When these people actually start going after people or companies using just a tiny bit of skill then I will take them seriously. Until then I will keep looking at them as 14 and younger kids playing on mom and dads computer when theyre bored with the Xbox.

I mean for someone who wants to be a 'hacker' this is on a basic level of things. Fairly simple to do.

Thanks for the info.
I'm pretty clueless & not 'tech savy' at all.
It does sound simple enough.
Although taking some sites down for a day or so doesn't sound so bad, I'm sure it could be catastrophic depending on the site.
Shame that this info is beneficial to the pedo's, I probably wouldn't have posted those bits for that reason, but understand why you did.
The sooner Anonymous find a way to get the scum that hide behind these tricks the happier I'll be.

Honestly if one was really internet savvy there are ways to make your location undetectable to anyone. Even government. It's not hard at all(for me atleast). I grew up hacking/cracking so I know the ropes. I assume that most of these people who download child material are not...

The only way to stop them is to remove the content from the internet which is borderline impossible. It sucks but it's safe to say that if someone really wanted to see it there is no stopping them from doing so.

Yup, that's true.
