I am considering Photobucket. Is there a better free media/photo host service?

Looking for:

  1. Lots of free server space.
  2. Reliability.
  3. Preferably not too much closing of accounts as want to be able to leave my media without logging on for periods. etc.

I would massively appreciate it if you could tell me what the reasons for your choice are.

Thanks in advance.

photobucket.com
does good and easy to use can upload / use from pc or mobile.

tried some of the others and they didnt work that well or wanted to charge for extra space..

According to TinyPic you don't even need an account. It looks like it's just Photobucket with a different front end to me...

Blatant bump.

There must be someone with advice on this. I really don't know which site to use. So far the only advice is to use 2 different versions of the Fox owned Photobucket. Is that really the best option?

Photobucket is what I use.

I have two different accounts there under two different e-mail addresses.

You can even upload your photos from a iphone using the Snapbucket app.

I have a Flickr account too but haven't used it in years.

I use tinypic..

Photobucket closed my account due to abuse

apperantly using there site, as a host, is abuse? for a signiture I use on every forum site minus ats because im too lazy to update my proffile..

So.. since 09 sometime when they closed my acct.. been with tiny pic ever since.. as far as I know, no daily/monthly bandwidth usage, and if there is.. i've not hit it.. and I post movies to TP, then put them on facebook, send to friends.. they get quite a bit of bandwidth from me.. and its never been an issue.

tinypic at the time, was a better option anyway, but I went with photobucket.. tinypic has always had the video upload feature as long as I can remember.. but I remember a time when photobucket didnt..

It all comes down to what you want. In light of this thread, I checked out PB again, and it looks quite different, and I wouldent be opposed to trying again with them. But for now, I think ill stay with what works.

Thanks for the info. In fact thanks to everyone who has posted.

This is the crux of the matter. I want to host images to be used elsewhere. I'm not so fussed about video as there are many potential hosts but for images. Has anyone recently had problems with Photobucket when hosting images?

I also don't want my account to disappear just because I haven't logged in for a few weeks. I may disappear from time to time.

Do you hotlink your images? I don't want to lose my account for hotlinking.

Sorry I don't know what hotlinking is. My pics have been on photobucket for about 6 years and I still link them to here and there occasionally. Everything works fine.

That is hotlinking. Cool.

If nobody has had problems with photobucket hotlinking recently then I think they have it. They seem to offer the best terms really.

I have been using ImageShack and Photobucket for some years, without any problem in either.

Once, some images disappeared from ImageShack, but I sent then an email and the images were quickly recovered.

Both offer unlimited space for an unlimited time and a maximum file size of 5MB. Both accept images and videos.

For bigger images I use esnips, but this one is limited to 5GB of storage space, although I think they do not have file size limits.

I think Photobucket will suit me. esnips does sound useful for higher resolution space images though so thanks for the info mate.

I think Zorgon's sorting out a better gallery system but I still think backing up other sites for safety is a good idea. I have already lost a load of data this year through foolishly not backing everything up!

If backup is what you want then I suggest ADrive, their free version offers 50GB of storage space.

I also need the images to be hosted for hot-linking.

I am backing up my data on my own external 500GB HD but am worried that if I get a virus it will infect that drive as well as my system. Is there any way of protecting that drive?

The only additional protection that I can think of is disconnecting it from the computer.
