Nasa detected a near earth object today and they say it should pass earth on Nov 8th... people who believe in 2012 say that this is an early warning to the up coming disaster on Dec 21,2012.. NASA estimates that the asteroid will pass earth some time between Nov 8th-10th the object was detected too late than what they said in their previous speeches "there are no known asteroids or comets which will come close to earth until 2025"

its as big as an aircraft carrier and it can destroy cities the size of NewYork 5 times over again

here are the full details.

In the article it says:

However, it isn't expected to pose any threat and its gravity will have "no detectable effect on anything here on Earth," NASA reported.

How is this so frightening?

I believe in 2012. It will be here in roughly 57 days, guaranteed.

I do not believe in any particular upcoming disaster though.

So I am curious, what does this ↓ statement mean?

2005 YU55 has been known about since, well, 2005. It passes the Earth about once every year and is not a threat. There are plenty of threads on this already and every time the story is the same. 2005 YU55 is not a threat. Stop worrying about it.

It has been known for a long time. Since 2005.

There are also about half a billion threads on ATS regarding this asteroid.

Some more info...

Frightening? Not at all, I think it will be a spectacular view when it bypasses the Earth.

Im still trying to figure out where the "frightening" part is...

It says it won't hit the earth, so whats frightening?

Fear mongering much lately?

Red threat > Terrorist Threat > Asteroid Threat >> Alien Threat?

was Werner von Braun right?

"Asteroid warning, very frightening"?

Huh? Where is the 'warning', why is it, 'very frightening'?

It's not even paranoia, it's just complete lunacy. Why don't people think before posting nonesense like this, it isn't a warning and there's nothing that's frightening. 2012 has nothing to do with it, you've just gathered other non-related, fear mongering data and jigsawed them together to create something from nothing. Why?

Which people? If, as you say, the asteriod was spotted by NASA today, when did you read people believed it to be related to the 'up-coming disaster' in 2012? Got a link, or did you just invent it?

just saw it too on drudgereport.

a LOT of posts on ATS about YU55.

it will pass within ONE lunar distance!

As we know, apophis 2036 was also supposed to pass nearly as close,

and its orbit was revised several times - orbits can vary widely depending

on how many measurements and from where obtained.

So, don't be too sure that NASA's JPL spokesman can be trusted when saying

"There is no chance that this object will collide with the Earth or moon," Yeomans said.

Also, didn't you notice the EMERGENCY alert system test is scheduled for

the very next day.... 11-9-11....!!

The word "warning" in the title is
misleading - I came here to see
if the course had changed, even
tho I didn't really think so.

Earth is not in danger from this
asteroid. I don't see the relation
to 2012. And it certainly isn't frightening!
I have hopes of seeing some great
images of YU55 soon.

it is a warning, a warning that this tiny fragment of space rock could be part of a larger asteroid that could be heading this way..maybe in 20 years, sure no evidence of that yet! but what happens if NASA detects it late like they did with this one?

and by the way it was titled "frightening close encounter with space rock"
they changed the headline of the article.

oh yeah i guess an ASTEROID that comes very close to our location doesnt scare you huh? well what if something pushes it towards a different path? very little chances of that happening but it can happen.

Actually the title of the article is NASA eyes asteroid's close encounter with Earth, I dont see the statement very frightening in there at all.

How is 2005 late?

This wasn't discovered recently.
