You're really helping. I mean, sitting on your computer, criticizing people on the internet, that is going to solve this countries problems. Why don't you go talk to your nearby occupy protest, and organize an effort to target local politicians? Something along those lines is in the works at occupykc right now.

I can criticize who I want, and I have been to OWS in my city which I have stated repeatedly.... I donate my time and money to various of causes. I have a family to support also. The change you want will never come protesting Bankers. It will come with protesting Government. Good luck getting OWS supporters to look past the political fence as a group.

That's something I've noticed. The majority of people that oppose the occupy protests have one centralized argument, along the lines of "Don't target the bankers, target the politicians!"

The issue: A government which has been corrupted by big money from banks / corporations.

The solutions: -Target the bankers which are corrupting our government.
-Target the politicians which are becoming corrupted by the bankers.

Instead of working together and trying to solve the issue, people would rather say "Bah, they're doing it wrong. I'm going to sit at home and complain on the internet". I say work together or STFU!

I don't need luck, we're working on that right now. It seems that it's you who is blinded by your political affiliation. We can't just pack up our stuff, say "We're going to DC! Hop on the bus and let's get moving!", march into the White House, and say "This is OUR house, do as we say!".

It's starting at a local level, but once the technique is figured out, it will spread. Once there is a way to ensure that politicians don't become corrupted, the word will get out to other organizations. How can we do that? A petition? Threats? What's your input on this subject, and why aren't you sharing this with occupy protesters instead of complaining that they aren't working on that?

We were told by the local politicians that they won't accept petitions, because they've had so many lately. We need to think of another technique, and despite your misconceptions, us protesters are very aware of the issue within the government, and are trying to solve it. It's not an overnight process, so give us a break!

In fact, why not lend a helping hand and work with them instead of badmouthing them? You're convinced that they're stubborn and won't want to? You're absolutely positive that your efforts will not bring about any change? Screw that, go help them out dude!

I agree! Do something or STFU!

OWS is doing something, the naysayers are not except to bash OWS.

If we follow their lead we will be stuck with the same garbage. Please don't mind if I don't follow their advice.

Damn right! This trend that's caught on lately around here, which revolves around talking s*** on the protesters, but not doing anything to solve the issue that you're criticizing them for not approaching correctly, it really needs to stop.

If you're going to criticize them despite the fact that they're trying to solve a huge problem with this country, you'd better match their effors with your favorable solution, if not surpass their efforts. Badmouthing them on the internet isn't going to fix a damn thing.

No,I wont STFU. "The whole If you arnt with us your against us",is BS.

I will do what I need to do,for this country.I will protest my own way,not the OWS way.

OWS doesnt represent ALL of America,or every American.Period.

While you protest,Obama will be bailing out Freddie Mac. I will write my letter tonight,in protest. Maybe OWS can do the same.

You're not against us. You said it yourself, the government is corrupted. You have a different solution, and that solution should be treated equally and addressed at your local occupy protest.

You said you've been there before, tell me, have you went up during the general assembly and introduced a proposal that involved dealing with politicians?

You're right, it doesn't represent all of America. It represents all that is wrong and those who are willing to stand up for what they believe.

Protest in any way you want, it's your right and I support you. I will do so in my way. I won't criticize your way if you promise not to criticize mine....deal?

You're joking, right? This is plutocracy, not socialism. Under true socialism, you wouldn't have to worry about mortgages since your home is provided, not bought.

Seriously, socialism is when failing corporations take tax money to support themselves? Hell, that's just fascism, and fascists hate socialists.

Meanwhile competent workers don't get deserved raises (let alone a bonus), enough hours to make a decent paycheck or (and most commonly) the opportunity to even get employed in the first place. I wish someone handed me a bonus when I mess up.
Deregulation at its finest. We don't get to tell banks how to play the game, but if they fall and scrape their knee, the tax payer is expected to pick them up and brush it off.

Just 6 billion dollars? whats that? like 4 euros? 2 pounds something?
I'm sure they want more. Somewhere in tune of a f*ckload of money. And I'm sure the public love them. The public would happily bend themselves over for any institution. Amirite Americans?

Nothing to see here, bonuses are required that's all!
In other news

Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the hybrid semi-private mortgage entities, are issuing seven figure bonuses to some of their executives. There is not one peep out of the media or the professional protesting mobs. No one is averse to this, no groups are planning to picket the homes of the executives. The White House is silent, both houses of congress are mute

How are we confusing the greed of people who have pulled off criminal looting in the name of capitalism with socialism?

This is political trolling.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

The OP has explained his use of the terminology. He was, and I agree with him, describing the voters that put the politicians of both parties into office. Blame Bush for signing the bail outs? Indeed. He was not a proponant of smaller govt. or cutting spending. Nor is, obiously, President Obama.

You all want to cast blame? Fine. Shout down the bankers? Fine. Shout down the politician lapdogs who vote in these obscene bailouts? Fine. Save some of that Grade A outrage for the gals and guys staring out of the mirror, too. Who, through their lack of involvement, allowed the corporate lapdogs to do all this?

Who?

Who?

Who?

*raising hand*

Me. You. Every damned one of us. You voted? You're at fault. You didn't vote? You're just as much to blame.

The solution isn't to protest the bankers, I'm sorry. They're ignoring you. These are multinational corporations who can change address at will. You, and me, need to target their lapdogs. The lapdogs doghouse isn't on Wallstreet. It's in Washington DC on Capital Hill.

Their true masters are you, me, and the rest of America's voters. You want change? Politicians need to hear that by being voted out of office. ...and their replacements need to know that they're being watched. To change this requires vigilance on the part of America's voters. That means getting out from behind the goddamned computer screen and becoming active in making the change happen.

Chanting lovely little catchphrases make for great soundbites, but are ultimately useless. Unless you use them to get active in the process, nothing is, or will, change.

Politicians are ultimately cowards. They will, when properly motivated do the right thing... That motivation will have to come from the voters. Courts can't do it. The press can't do it. Only voters in the voting booth can do it.

It's up to us.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Politics in America makes people very hateful & ugly. The system that Americans have bought into has truly divided and conquered you. Sometimes I think that if you guys didn't have a global boogyman to unite you, you'd fall into civil war..... again!
