"Murder is neat," she wrote, but "the love-makers [are] dirty."

she's got a point! would parents be outraged that the makers of their kids' favorite video game invites a porn star to their parties? should we not be more concerned about the portrayal of murder played over and over in these games?

i enjoy call of duty and i'll get MW3 when it comes out but i'd never let my son play it (he's 3) and i would never even let him watch me play it.

i think i would rather he witness (and potentially become desensitized to) consensual sex vis a vis repeated acts of murder (not that i would want him exposed to either!).

you wouldnt let your kid watch a game where you shoot a white line into a pixelated person and see them fly 5 feet infront of them with a red blob fly up and then you get 100 points because it is murderous? am i missing something?

oh, you're right. and if you had ever played it you'd know that you never hear 12-year-olds yelling racist epithets over the headset (which opens a whole new can of worms!)

further, i'm more interested in what activision perceives as acceptable to us, the video game buying public. it's ok to depict murder but depictions of sex are not ok and we should shun those involved in sex productions. what do you think of that? that work for you?

this is a great response, thank you! what is depicted in this? does it matter that it's computer generated graphics? what about if it was a cartoon beheading?

i guess i would argue that your post kind of gives me an answer: the depiction of a murder is something that does not disturb us that much, at least if it's a computer generated representation.

i dont think there is anything wrong with the call of duty games or battlefield etc. because they have war backgrounds. a mindless murdering game that a little kid shouldnt play is something like grand theft auto which is all about guns, sex, murdering, stealing and stuff like that.

i dont think a cod party would want a porn star there just so they dont get viewed as a grand theft auto type game

Seems absurd. It is rated M for mature. Last I checked porn was for mature people.

i just thought it was interesting that depictions of murder are less taboo than depictions of sex, and it took a porn star to get me thinking about it. actually it was the game! i found the story searching for MW3 news.

and, like i said, i will get the game tuesday. i play battlefield. i play with others here on ats. i'm not bemoaning the existence of violence in these games! i'm just scratching my head over it being more acceptable to kill than it is to have sex.

I was scrolling down looking for some legitimate truth or sense to this
post, nice.I guess you can say that most may not know that difference

Again, nice.

BTW, why the hell are 12 year old playing that game??, well hope that some youths are using their time a little better than sitting in front of video games. Its a big wide open world out there and kids these days are plopped in front of some kinda device to keep them occupied from what's really going in the world, disgusting. seems to me that the sci-fi movies and out-of-the-world ideas are not to far from the truth

LMAO

You think the game developers would be more aware of their target audience.
I pretty confident anyone who attends a game release party sex life is almost exclusively occupied by porn.

I say let her in

I find the issue rediculous. The Game is ratred "M" for mature for a reason. Who cares if a porn star is there...They're rated "M" too...
. If parents have a problem with this porn star, they should take a look at the games they buy for their kids and who the playsations is aimed at. From young adults to middle aged. That's right. Furthermore, parents should educate themselves about the ESRB ratings. E = Everybody, T = Teen, M = Mature so on and so forth. I HATE stupid, ignorant parents that blame games when their kids are out of line when they themselves bought the game for their kids. Stop blaming everybody and take a look in the mirror...morrons.
Sorry for ranting. It did feel good though

It's not like John Holmes is showing up to a Mario All Stars party... this is an "M" rated game. Why are parents even involved? A parent who is upset by this must also admit that they are letting their child play an "M" rated game! Shame on the hosts for caving in to these terrible and negligent parents.

I don't monitor their golf games and bridge clubs so they need to stay out of our games. I wouldn't let my child within 20' of COD so I couldn't care less if there were naked orgies at their parties because it is supposed to be an ADULT party. Geeze...

It makes sense they would uninvite her... The largely virginal crowd who would actually attend a "video game party" doesn't want to be reminded of their "loser-ness" and they certainly don't want to be distracted from their video games
It also goes along with the agenda... We want a generation of pissed off murderous trenchcoat mafia types, not a bunch of sensitive lovemaking faries who are in touch with their female side... We don't even want them admitting they even HAVE a feminine side...

I hate how these games target kids. They show commercials on "kids" tv channel. They use jokes and market to the population in a way that speaks to kids. Its not that your witnessing a virtual murder its that your committing a virtual murder. When kids get addicted to these games they become angry and overly competitive. I guess it really depends on the kid. But even then I would never give these games to any kid. The most popular games out are shooter games. People are drawn in by the amazing graphic detail that they put in FPS. Like masqito's attracted to light. The potential for video games to completely change our society is high. Imagine a world where games have a positive message, games witch challenged the human brain. Most games you just ruthlessly kill.

Think about a game like battlefeild bad company 2, 3hrs of game play. For 3 hrs all you hear is bombs weapons and people screaming in pain. All you see is explosions and body's going limp. It may not be Vietnam but you cant tell me that has no effect you.

I use many fourms witch are related to gaming. I do not know what it is but these people just seem like they cannot open their eyes. You tell them something they do not want to hear, they get angry and throw a fit. I know its ignorant to throw all gamers in one pot but most of them are in a sleep like state and I know these games are not helping.

What are you talking about?

The games have an age rating for a reason and if lazy or stupid parents let their kids play the games then it's their problem.

Depicting murder? It's depicting war accurately, this is what brave men and women in the military do. Sex is more taboo because it's supposed to be a private thing between consenting adults which warfare is not.

Sorry but that's the only response I can think of for your posts and thread because I still have no idea what you're trying to say.

with all due respect, i'm not sure why you are struggling to understand what i am saying.

1. i play these video games
2. i think it's BS that they uninvite the porn star because ultimately depictions of murder are more offensive than depictions of sex.
3. as i mentioned in my post above, this thread is not decrying the existence of violence in video games.

why even post in a thread if you are not going to read the posts?
