The truth about asteroid 2005 #YU55 & other near-Earth objects. Live Q&A Nov 1, 2:30pm PT (2130 UT): ustream.tv...

Tweet from Nasa JPL.

Tune in here -> www.ustream.tv...

Show starts in about an hour, I suggest you tune in and educate yourself with the facts. I hope they are able to capture some good images of this asteroid. I wish they had planned a probe mission to intercept this thing. I feel like we are missing out on a good opportunity. Lets tune into the show and keep it real folks.

If I only could force myself to believe NASA really cared to tell us the truth about anything, except that space is cold in some spots. I sure did enjoy their red sky on Mars photos that I used in school science fair projects that were completely inaccurate.
I wonder if they'll show us real footage of this asteroid or some old stock footage decades old. Thanks for the link though, I'm sure I'll be entertained rather than educated.

The a priori facts that is. I may just listen to it, and of course I will learn something or another. I would agree that NASA, very sadly, cannot be turned to with any true hope for integrity...

... not after Bob Dean.

And the NASA bashing commences. Hey, remember that time where they stated over and over again that Elenin would pose no threat to Earth and then we all died? Man, what liars.

The "FACT" is asteroids are not my concern.
If a planet falls on me, what am I supposed to do? try to run?
Like I said, not my concern.
Hope it helps

How many "truths" were posted concerning ELEnin? Extinction Level Event Nibiru Is Near or Nine, as in ninth extinction. Heck, there were those who didn't believe Leonid Elenin didn't even exist!

Now we have YU55....Please! Another Comet, different day.

Thank you for the link,

However I'm amazed that the american public fund NASA through taxes, yet never gets to share the information they glean from the various missions! That in itself is a travesty and I'd stop feeding the back stabbing dog,

Their big "announcements" have all been disappointing to me. I've been waiting for decent information from them and I seem to get more from amateurs.

I want to hear about the giant objects near our sun, tired of this artifact nonsense explanation for "all" of them, there are NASA SOHO images of some from 2 different Stereo satellites. BPOilDisaster guy caught them and for once he was on to something.

Just a FYI. the two sets of info you provided were from two different places. The short list was from spaceweather.com and the second was from JPL. so how can you say that JPL changed their list, when that first list wans't even theirs???

Thank you for this thread!

Am watching the UStream video now...I hope ALL ATS members can access it and view as well.

2005 YU55 asteroid made a close approach to Earth LAST YEAR, as well.

To those who suggested a space mission to be launched to investigate this asteroid....I only ask, "why"? There are plans to investigate, by spacecraft, other asteroids already. Space flights don't happen "off the cuff", they take an enormous amount of planning and preparation.

I ADORE that *Lava Lamp Spaceship" in the background!!!! (In the video)..... I am going on e-Bay to find one...I HAVE to have one!!

For one you're comparing two different sources. Second, how can they include NEOs that weren't discovered until October on a list that was compiled in July?

Let me get this straight, are you implying that spaceweather.com is operated by nasa? not saying its not possible, just don't think it is very plausible

Ya I still think both came from NASA and JPL is a arme of NASA ALso this

The Minor Planet Center (MPC) operates at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), under the auspices of Division III of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). The MPC is responsible for the designation of minor bodies in the solar system: minor planets; comets, in conjunction with the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (CBAT); and natural satellites (also in conjunction with CBAT). The MPC is also responsible for the collection, computation, checking and dissemination of astrometric observations and orbits for minor planets, comets, and natural satellites. The MPC derives its current operating budget from a NASA grant. Computer equipment used by the MPC is provided with support from the Tamkin Foundation.

so what common NASA which is a arm of DoD

The company I work for wins a great deal of their contract awards for government R&D. Technologies invented or commercialized at where I work on occasion branch out to start their own private company free and clear with an owner, a CEO, and so on. So would that mean that since that company came about through money and infrastructure from the labs of the father company and went out as a spinoff company, would the funding tunneling that stared that company, make it a government controlled arm? No.

NASA is much bigger than you know, but just because they allocate some of their funds to support private industry R&D doesn't mean they hold any control over how that company uses those funds other than delivering what they said, and if they can't the research they have sort of has to be an open book, especially about where that money went.

I wonder if you know that at least all of the huge DOE National Laboratories are operated by a private consortium of R&D companies and Universities, and not the government. Though you will have a very strict structured government audit to report to...daily...now...more than before.

I am going to take a wild stab in the dark here, and state that..........the other 7 were discovered AFTER the time of closest approach. Most of these asteroids are TINY, and extremely difficult to detect. Why does everything have to be a conspiracy?

There are no objects near the sun.

You can ask all the amateurs with solar telescopes that watch the sun daily.

Again, why did you expect objects discovered AFTER your list to appear on your list? Near earth asteroids are typically not discovered until they're close and bright enough to be about magnitude 20~21 or so. For small asteroids that leaves a very short window of opportunity to discover it just prior to a close approach.
