I was talking to my significant other about getting a moped because we shop at so many places within five to ten miles from us, and it would save on gas.

Will I look as dorky as I would feel, and are there ways to trick my moped out to make me look less dorky? I like the skull on the front idea from my motorcycle thread.

Peace

I say go for it, I would like to get one too! You may actually start a new trend
then everyone can save on gas

I like these ones, they can go over 60mph www.vespausa.com...

THIS ONE IS NOT DORKY imo...www.vespausa.com...#!s=overview/gtv-300

Mopeds always look dorky, it's a way of life. Im guessing with the saving price on gas your wallet would start to look less dorky though.

Mopeds are like fat girls....fun to ride, but you don't brag about it to your friends.

(Kidding, that's an old joke).

I actually rode one for about a year, then I went to a motorcycle after that. Same reasons as you...cheap on gas, and short distances anyhow.

Sucks when it rains though..sucks really hard. Ever felt a rain drop at 50mph? Now a bunch of them at one time? Ouch. Still though, I'd get a motorcycle again in a heartbeat, but my wife would kill me.

Yes though, no way to look cool riding a moped...(that's why I went to the motorcycle). You could probably find an inexpensive cycle though too....both need the same license anyhow.

Just don't let your friends see ya riding one.

With that sort of range, I'd honestly suggest just getting a good mountain bike or some such and throw in the added workout.

You'd have to consider the specifics of how much weight you're wanting to transport and what kind of storage you could add to the bike if a backpack or the like wouldn't cut it, but that's where I'd go as would be generally beneficial and cut out a bit of the 'dork' factor.

Otherwise, screw it. Embrace your inner dork, friend. The world needs more to buck the system and not care about such trivial things. I'd say a personalized paint job in the right colors would help otherwise, and the choice of model, of course.

EDIT:
Hey, take a look at these... just ad a faux gas tank and some pegs, and I'm sure no one would ever know...

Do you live in Europe?

If no...then yes.

I think a loud muffler might do the job, if that's possible with a moped.

As far as the bicycle goes, good idea, but I'm not sure how much weight I'm gonna be hauling, and if you can even haul it on a bicycle. Last thing I need is to tip over and fall into the road and get obliterated.

Peace

Some of these vespas have chrome kits and windshields to cool them up a bit....Look if you are not single, who gives a rats a$$ anyway?? In this day and age, does looking a certain way really matter?

I say go for it and don't get so concerned about what others' think.
They are not paying for your gas and saving money is more important.
You will get into shape and save at the same time.

Sorry,I was thinking about bicycles not mopeds...

There's no way to avoid it!

If you do get one, go for the vespa. It's about as cool as a "scooter" gets.

Mopeds and fat chicks sure are alot of fun.
I just wouldn't want my friends to see me with either.
Listen, it's your ego.
If you don't mind it doesn't matter.
Do what ya like.

Your question reminds me of this:

In all seriousness though, the more money you can save on gas, the better, and the wiser. I wouldn't worry about what others thought, because its your money that you are saving. Let them laugh while you are laughing all the way to the bank.

You people need to get things straight.

Moped (what I grew up with) actually had pedals!

I would ask, out of respect, that you refer to Vespas and the like as scooters.

Grazie!
