Are Libyans awakening from a ‘ludicrous nightmare’, or does the death of Gaddafi mark the beginning of a new era of imperial exploitation?

"Gaddafi Seized Power in Bloodless Coup: Muammar Gaddafi, aka Col. Gaddafi, seized power in 1969 in a bloodless coup by overthrowing King Idris of Libya — Idris achieved power with British backing in 1949.

Libya Ranks #1 on the Human Development Index: According to the United Nations Development Programme, Libya ranked first in Africa (53 globally) on the Human Development Index — ahead of Saudi Arabia at 55, Iran at 70, South Africa at 73, Jordan at 82, Egypt at 101, Indonesia at 108, India at 119, Afghanistan at 155.

It is reported that Libyans receive free housing, education, health care, substantial cash when they marry, and overseas education if they qualify.

Largest Oil Reserves in Africa: According to the U.S. Energy Information, “Libya has the largest proven oil reserves in Africa”.

Program to Privatize Oil: On February 21, 2011, five days after the Arab Spring broke out in Libya, Qaddafi launched a new program to privatize all Libyan oil to every citizen of Libya, initially providing $21,000 to every Libyan from a total of $32,000,000,000 in the Year 2011, so that the health, education, transport, and some other ministries could be abolished and individual Libyans could use the profits of their own investments, including from oil ownership, to obtain the relevant services.

This, Gaddafi said, is the best way to eliminate corruption, including the theft of Libyan oil by foreign oil companies, and to decentralize governmental power.

Great Man-Made River Project: The Great Man-Made River Project, begun in 1984 by Col. Gaddafi, has been called the 8th Wonder of the World. It supplies fresh water to the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi, Sirte and elsewhere.

The U.S. threatened to bomb this “C-W Factory”; foreign companies covet the fresh water."

As usual, it's all about the oil.

Anybody care to bet Castro would have been gone years ago if he had oil? The US has got nothing to loot in Cuba, so they leave him alone.

I agree with your points besides that. The US barely receives any oil from Libya, and Europe recieves so little oil that a full scale upheaval would not be worth the risk.

Also, with your point about Castro, if the US is all about oil, why is Chavez still on power?

because chavez is democratically elected. it would look ridiculous to "liberate" the venezuelan people from a democracy.

and you just proved his point. america barely gets any oil from libya. now it will get all the oil it wants. of course, after completely corrupting libya's fledgling democracy and cashing in on all the secret backroom deals it made with the rebels.

I might pointout to you that NATO has already bombed the great manmade river project, and to top it off they bombed out the only cement plant in Libya that made the cement pipes for the project...
Ill bet theres a rich contract in that for somebody like KBR or Halliburton.....come to think of it, isnt that Clinton dame exKBR people?
Whoever gets the contract to help the Libyans rebuild their pipes and restore the water is in for a sweet deal....
The Liberation of this country was all about eliminating a man who spoke the truth about the rest of the world too loudly....see his speech to the UN.....
They had to kill him for the bankers as he was going back to gold standard too......
Ghadaffi maybe wasnt perfect, but he wasnt stupid either...he saw the west for what it is....

While much of this money was held by government institutions like the Central Bank of Libya and the Libyan Investment Authority, Qaddafi was able to withdraw money at will.

Makes ya wonder if he's really in France right now ...

...and within a year of privatizing the oil, he is dead. Seems to me the same thing happened with Saddam although death took a little longer.

You can mess with human rights, the environment, etc, but mess with big profits? Ain't happening.

the only reason everybody thinks gahdafi was an evil tyrant was because wolf blitzer was harping that point every night on cnn.

how can you judge a man and a country without ever visiting the country or meeting the man.

he instantly became an enemy because he wasn't selling oil to the west. there fore he became an evil tyrant.

he was anti-west. just like americans are anti-communist, anti-n.korean etc.

i'm sure he's no saint. but neither is mccain, obama or both bushes. they all have much more blood on their hands than moammar gahdafi ever had.

every innocent civilian that gets killed around the globe by errant predator drone strikes is on the hands of the person that ordered the strike. which is the commander in chief.

Mostly what we've heard in MSM about Qaddafi are blatant propogandist lies. Why tell anyone the truth? Tell the people, the American people, all they need to hear to do the elite's bidding, those people who own and control the media. It may be 180 degrees out from the truth but it gets the job done.

Those who don't want to join in with our monetary system, those who desire to keep their countries independent and out of debt are the globalists' enemies, and Americans are their muscle. Tell the people all they want to hear about why some foreign leader has got to go and they will never question it, not enough of us to matter at least as we will just be tin-foil-hat conspiracy theorists. Truth won't win the battle. Truth won't motivate the troops. Truth won't pay the bills. Truth is not what most Americans want to hear, not if it shatters their delusions and casts us in a dark shadow.

We can't send troops into battle if we tell them this is a bad guy because he doesn't want his country indebted to globalist bankers and wants to provide free healthcare, university education, housing, and cheap gasoline to his citizens. Such things are not the American way, but such things do not motivate the troops.

So we're all mad because the facts we were sold were lies?

OK

Why are you believing these 'facts' just as gullibly? I could pound out some facts like every disabled veteran recieves free healthcare.

Guess what, I qualify and I don't.

He is dead, you never visited the country, this is a sad day for planet Earth. Mourn the loss of a soul, not a bank account or contract or 'fact'.

Baaaaah, baaah, baaaaaaaaah. Just keep on sucking that propaganda straw. It's gonna be a great ride to the bottom.

Let's start the awakening when you tell me great and wonderful things about your enemies, and how they aren't toal scumbags who deserve to.. heh.

Now tell me about your friend who's always there when you need him, handing out government subsidies...

Well, I guess you don't get it by now and you never will. You're being PLAYED, every day. Stop playing the game and just go outside.

Bingo ABNARTY:

The minute Gaddafi announced a plan that would threaten big oil interests - he was a dead man.
