Communism usually works very good,
as long as it is a small group, friends, family, loved ones.
In this scenario, everyone is usually motivated to work hard so that all have some. And miscreants are right in plain view of said group.
That being said, once the commune gets so large that people aren't accountable, some start slacking, cause, well, it's not their friends.
What's worse is when the head commie in charge decides he is fit to be the supreme leader.
