Yeah i do agree, i mean you shop lift once when you are a kid, you get in loads of trouble, get grounded by your parents etc and for the most early criminals, dont reoffend.

I think a standard model for extending the jail time, once is a standard sentence, if you are released "rehabilitated" but you then reoffend, double or tripple the jail time. Somthing of that sort. You want to be able to make sure you ARE rehabilitating offenders, no matter their crime, we are born free we should be given the opertunity to turn our ways.

For some reason killing a baby or child is usually life sentences, yet to completly RUIN that baby or childs life by any means, isnt. Technicly both have taken a life. I dont know why punishment isnt stronger.

Where is your proof?

Don't state an incredibly ignorant fact like that without proof.

I wouldn't say they ruin them. Harm them very badly, yes, but I wouldn't say being molested is a fate worse than death. I know some people who have been molested and while I definitely can tell it has made them less happy than they ought to be, they can still pursue and feel happiness and do the things they want to do; it's just that much more difficult. Murder victims don't have this chance, aside from in some other life.

The idea being touched as a child is the same as being murdered is a Victorian remnant of the idea that if a girl had lost her virginity before marriage, she was worthless as a bride. The old "damaged goods" concept.

As for the whole punishment thing, I think punishment is mostly based on revenge and we should re-think our concept of it as being rehab for those who can be safely reformed and quarantine for those who cannot. Life in prison is probably something suitable only for the very worst (people like the Norway shooter, Charles Manson, and so on). IMO it should be a very rare punishment.

If the DSM claims that it is not an illness or psychological ..Does not mean it is not a crime..Now they will not be able to use this to land in State Hospital or mental institution..but rather with other criminals..in prison.

That is my take.

Peace

Hopefully that will be the case, the amount of times i have seen people "get off" with crimes by pleading insanity (because of a mental illness) is ridiculous, sure there are times when people are actually "mentally ill", though it seems the "insanity" plead is usually used as a get-out-of-jail-free card.

How often have you seen that? From what I have heard, it is extremely difficult to successfully plead insanity. In fact, I would say it doesn't happen nearly often enough.

Is pedophilia criminalized now? I mean child molestation, and sexual abuse, and child pornography are of course crimes and that won't change in regards to this, but what does just pedophilia entail? The condition? Removal of age of consent? What?

It seems you took a wrong turn at 1850 AD.

And who gave him all those stars? Come on, own up.

both are disgusting.

I feel the same. However one is a criminal act, the other is two consenting parties. What right is it of yours to push for something to be curtailed just because it's disgusting in one's personal opinion?

Lets come at this from a different point of view.

I'm in NY state. A consenting person is age 17. Next door in PA, I believe it is 16. There are other states, I've heard but haven't researched which allow 15 as the age of consent.

So just in the above what is normal in one state is abnormal in another.

I'm told other countries have various ages at which consent is legal at age 12. Again I don't know for sure as I've not researched it.

Then for you Christians, the Virgin Mary was likely age 13 at the age of conception. OK God did the deed, but if so then age 13 should be accepted by humans as we are made in his image and likeness.

I should hope that such a conference would enlighten us as to a standard age.

Frankly I was quite ready for sexual encounters at age 11. (not as a relationship but just pure sex).
