I am quite familiar with possums one visits my yard up close, and this is not a possum.
Possums are small and have long hairless tails.
I think it is a wet wolverine. The coloring is correct, as is the tail.
Take a look at images online.

Yup, no possum...tail is a dead give away...I feel sorry for the critter, whatever it may be.
If this was near Wall Street, I may be able to identify it

If that’s a wolverine then I’m 5”9”’ and blonde.... I don’t think you’d find any wolverines in Manhatten even on a sunny day.

I’m going to say it’s an opossum.

If you are not aware, it is absolutely crazy the invasion of wildlife back into its former domain even though such areas are now more densely human packed than before. The evident answer is that they are being squeezed into accepting and invading areas they formerly abandoned. The ubiquitous example of this Return OF the Wild is the lowly coyote to roam the eastern US.

Woverines are rather mean and nasty creatures.

...but an otter wouldnt be walking around looking as if its out of its element... however, since you posted that pic of a WAY too cute pup, it could be an otter mama who's looking around for her baby...

True they wouldn't normally be in Manhatten, but I know from experience that hurricanesdrive animals out of their usual habitats....just like people evacuate, so do animals. Sometimes they even get caught in the flood waters are are swept to another place. I know here in Louisiana, after a hurricane, we will see alligaters, deer, and snakes all over the place....it's crazy. I'm pretty sure it's a wolverine (of course I could be wrong, but I think so) This video shows an African Honey Badger, but there are all different types...look at the shape of the head, and the way the body slopes etc....

I KNOW! I hate to see animals in situations like that. But if that IS a wolverine, and I tried to save him, he would probably chew my face off!!
They are viscious little dudes
Still....I hope he's ok...
