Regardless of your amazing ability to copy and paste UN resolutions, the rebel government have been legitimised and our special forces are there at that governments behest and invitation.

The legitimisation makes the UN resolution null in void if the government in power requests assistance.


The rights and wrongs of conflicts can be argued until the cows come home on these boards. What is posted here will change nothing.

The SAS are good but I wouldn't say they are significantly better than other nations special forces around the world. They seem to excell in intelligence gathering and subversion, but everything else they do they are pretty much run of the mill. The problem with the UK special forces is that they are asked to cover many roles wheras nations such as the USA have special forces for each task. The SAS certainly breeds fear into their enemies though thanks to their reputation. And I have read stories of a Ghurka who made it in the SAS who defended an outpost single handedly from a 50 man assault with nothing more than a bunker and a machine gun.

That is why the SAS are the best!! They really are a small army in their own right, and as you say, SAS do it all.

Navy seals, Delta force , U. S. Army Green Berets, U. S. Army Rangers, Australian SAS , Shayetet 13, MARSOC ,Spetsnaz and the UK SBS are excellent elite special forces teams as well. In all the lists of 'best special forces teams' i saw the US certainly has the most entries for any country

Just so as you know, the Green Berets are a tier two Special Forces asset as are the U.S Rangers (and the SEALs) they are probably comparable to UKSFG or the Para’s in the UK, NSWDG and 1st SFOD-D are tier one and are comparable to units like the SAS, SBS, SRR and units such as KSF, Sayeret Matkal and so on. Comparing the SAS to the U.S Rangers is a bit like comparing NSWDG to 1st Calvary Division.

DEVGRU, formerly known as SEAL team six, is a Tier One special operations unit.

The US Air Force's 24th Special Tactics Squadron is Tier One.

There is one other T-1 operator, but its blacker than DEVGRU or Delta, used to go by the names The Activity, Gray Fox, Task Force Orange, etc.

Honorable mention to the CIA's Special Acitivities Division.

I love these “Blacker than Black” groups like the ISA (or whatever they call themselves now) and SAD, Kidon, Group 13, the Increment, GB75, Vympel (if it still exists and if thats its name) and so on. shame it is hard to find out anything about them right. on saying that however Michal Smith does have a good book about ISA and a couple of books do talk about SAD
