NATO destroys radar at Tripoli's international airport

www.ctv.ca

BRUSSELS, Belgium — NATO warplanes destroyed the radar antenna at Tripoli International Airport on Monday, the alliance said, claiming the system was being used for military purposes by Moammar Gadhafi's regime.

A statement said the air traffic control radar at the civilian airport was tracking NATO jets and the providing information to Libyan air defences.

"The antenna, which was previously used for civilian air traffic control, was being used by pro-Gadhafi forces to track NATO air assets...

It seems like the Gadhafi forces are using any means of communication and military strategy to try and outwit foreign troops. But isn't it illegal by international law to destroy another country's airport?

"Technically it is against international law to go against civilian navigational facilities," said Bill Voss, president of the Flight Safety Foundation, a group that promotes aviation safety worldwide. "But the case can sometimes be made that they are not really civilian."

So if you conclude that any international airport is not used for civilian purposes but only for military, how could NATO prove that it was used for just that?

It seems like NATO just wants to bomb the heck out of Tripoli to get Gadhafi out...just like the normal citizens that live there and want change. NATO is helping them move faster to make that change.

However, as the story went on as to the implications of NATO's actions:

NATO officials say that it is of no real consequence to civilian flights as officially there should be no flights at all in Libyan airspace. There has been a no-fly zone over Libya for four months already.

Interesting.

NATO makes up their own play book as they go along but if anyone else went against International law, NATO would be quick to call foul.

This war...and yes it is a war regardless of how the West wants to paint it, is so blatantly illegal, immoral and unjustified, yet nothing is being done and no one seems to care because it's 'Over there'.

Now that the DHS is threatening the US with terror attacks if they don't get what they want, watch and see what happens when the American people are caught up in another false flag attack.
www.abovetopsecret.com...

It will then be billed as the worst thing to have ever happened to innocent people since 9/11 as the horrific crimes against innocent people in Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan (too long to list all) will then be seen as justified. Because you know where the finger will be pointed.

Just a prediction...

I've been waiting for Gaddafi to bloody NATO's nose. If they could shoot down a plane, capture the pilots and kill them brutally on TV it would go a long way to rallying his troops and citizens into putting down the rebellion started by France for oil. I think he and his forces will outlast NATO and then payback will start, I sure wouldn't want to live in France at that time.

NATO and the respective Governments that operate within it, should be disbanded,

It's nothing to do with peace, it's a strong arm for the puny little spineless dwarfs that hide behind closed doors playing with young children "called Bankers"

This earth has been completely poisened by these scum and needs a fresh start,

Here's hoping MURDERoch will be the first card to fall and we can hunt these dogs down like they do everybody else, and put them out of their insidious misery.

Unfortunately, it seems acceptable to a majority that NATO can justify collateral damage and some innocent Libyans die. But if Ghaddafi started to win and NATO was at risk of falling, it will again be seen as justified and sold to the public as legal to carpet bomb the entire Nation.

they were using it as an early warning system so they could tell people to run for cover and blast air warning sirens.
i bet now that nato has taken that out you will see civilian casualties go up in tripoli.

all part of "protecting civilians"
...what a crock this whole farce is.

And how can a radar be used to harm citizens?

That's the reason we are there right?

^^^ This - absolutely hits the nail on the head. NATO / EU has shown its true colours and I am ashamed of them. add to this the US woes and its a bleak age we live in indeed. No longer beacons of light but bringers of darkness death and destruction. World wide the moment you oppose their plans.. for money. Sick.

GOD Bless the people of Libya, if they were a country without no would care, they would be like any other African Nation left to plunder themselves against themselves with Foreign Aid Workers crying out over real atrocities.

GOD Damn NATO! GOD Damn France! GOD Damn us all for believing such nonsense that a World Leader has no right to use what ever is in his means to protect his people.

What about the Real Monsters? What about the Devil? Shall we Bomb Hell next?

All the Money could be used to help the Children of the World; you change the world by serving the world, not by serving yourself!

This is very stupid move by NATO and to go claim that the Civilian airport radar at a international airport can be used for military purpose? thats a funny one NATO Terrorists.

"The antenna, which was previously used for civilian air traffic control, was being used by pro-Gadhafi forces to track NATO air assets...

The international train was hit with four missiles as it was traveling from Belgrade to Thessaloniki, Greece, and the exact number of victims was never determined. Authorities said that more than 30 people perished, while scores of others were injured. NATO at the time said their deaths were "collateral damage". Wreaths will be placed at the monument built to honor the victims of train 393, who were killed on April 12, 1999. Family members of the victims, Serbian Railway officials, as well as those from the nearby town of Leskovac, and various party and union representatives will attend the ceremony today, it was announced.

Only Military bases with military radars can track such assets, dont forget this what they destroyed

Its a normal airport

This reminds me of how NATO bombed Civilian targets in Serbia in 1999, the most famous lie of NATO is there claim that a Serbian civilian train was actaully carrying military personal, after the war that was proven to be false.

NATO War Crime

History it seems always repeats itself in different ways.

Remind me during the Kosovo War when NATO warplanes bombed a headquarters of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) network in Belgrade, killing 16 employees. NATO said it was used for headquarters. I think USA should leave NATO and leave up to other countries to man up their own defense. Seems like the Serbian military always misguided the warplanes hiding under camouflage/using tactics to avoid getting their targets hit.

if nato and their allies get their way and oust mr g, there will be plenty of reconstruction work for western contractors and companies. it wouldn't surprise me if they have already written the pre-health and safety tender documents and are now looking for more lucrative targets. destroy to rebuild! any guesses on who is in line for the construction work?

It is a radar head. Of course civilian radars can be utilised to provide basic tracking info. Do you honestly believe that just because it is an Air Traffic Control radar that it can't be used in such a manner? Think about it you are a Libya air defence commander and all your military radars have been destroyed or suppressed. The only thing left to provide a basic radar picture is the ATC radar. You are attempting to defend your nation and strike back and so utilise anything at your disposal. Many Integrated Air Defence systems have the civilian radars hooked up to command and control centres to provide basic tracking info if their primary radars get taken out. They would be fools not to.

The Rebel still operated their civilian ATC radars at Benghazi. Even they could collect a basic radar picture.

If you had done your research then you would have found that this is what what the strike hit - the radar antenna. A surgical strike using a low impact weapon to disable the antenna.
