The Pentagon has concluded that computer sabotage coming from another country can constitute an act of war, a finding that for the first time opens the door for the U.S. to respond using traditional military force.

How can this new policy be carried out?

If a 15 year old in Toulouse sets up a cyber attack on the Pentagon, will the US then bomb France? France has been an ally of the United States since La Fayette.

I'd love to hear ATS' members perspective on this - it is now official U.S. policy.

And by the way, I have seen few front page headlines about this new policy. The link above is from the "Tech" section of the Wall Street Journal.

Der Spiegel does have an excellent, very detailed article on this subject in German. I could not find an English translation of it.

Or a 15 year old kid from Toulouse carrying out attacks on China from a computer in Norway under the employ of the Russians?

Anyone could blame anyone for damn near anything with such laws.

Don't leave the kids alone with the computer at home. Soon smartphones and tablets will be like guns.

You are so right! This situation is becoming surreal.

Although it gives the Pentagon the ability to accuse ANY country of nearly ANYTHING it still seems like macho posturing for a problem that ultimately cannot be resolved.

There is no security on the internet - period!

Yes, and American technology has provided our kids with all these incredible weapons!

A bit like running guns over the border to Mexico!
