Yemen soldiers killed in south, 300 defect: opposition

ADEN/SANAA (Reuters) - At least 26 Yemeni government soldiers and 17 Islamist militants linked to al Qaeda were killed on Wednesday in heavy fighting for control of a stadium near the southern city of Zinjibar, officials said.

Opposition officials said more than 300 government soldiers had defected, in a further blow to President Ali Abdullah Saleh as he recovers in Saudi Arabia from injuries sustained in an attack on his palace in early June.

More and more, it looks like the government is completely losing control. In recent battles, more government soldiers have been getting killed than the militants.

Maybe its stuff like this that leads the soldiers to defect?

Yemen air raid kills four civilians

A Yemeni air raid on a convoy of vehicles near the militant-held southern city of Zinjibar killed four civilians and wounded 12 on Wednesday, medical sources said.

And not to mention the shooting of unarmed protesters in the past few months.

Then it also looks like Yemen President Saleh is in somewhat of a limbo at the moment.

Yemen VP says doesn't know when Saleh returns - report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Yemen Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi said on Wednesday that the country's president was so severely injured in an assassination attempt that he did not know when he would return, CNN reported.

Will Saleh even come back to the country? Earlier today, there was a start of more transition talks, but in the past, those havent really worked out at all.
