Water Company Shenanigans?

Hey everybody this is my first new thread.

I live in NW Indiana and just listened to a new voicemail from my water company, stating that over the next few weeks they will be doing system tests that may result in smoke coming out of drains of customers.The message said that the smoke would be non-toxic and running some water would stop it quickly.Now I've been living in this area for all of my 27 yrs. and do not recall any kind of tests like this.Now I do not want to jump to conclusions and say this is some kind of conspiracy, as I am a mechanic and have done smoke tests on cars to find evap leaks.I just never remember any tests like this, and was curious if any other members have had this in their area and get some opinions...

Like I said may be nothing at all, but seemed kinda shady to me

All smoke is toxic if inhaled. What a stupid thing for them to say.

Also, who pays for the water you run down the drains if you do spot smoke?

I'd ask for more information if I were you. Start sending emails if you can, then it won't cost you anything and you can keep hitting "reply" until you are satisfied.

Tell them you are familiar with smoke testing and would like a more scientific and specific explanation.

No worries, You are just fine. I just knew where to look.

It's perfectly normal.. I've seen it a few times.. there used to be a chemical plant near by and they would do tests every few years to make sure everything was sealed properly ..

Since the chemical plant was leveled and made into a parking lot, they've only done one other such test..

Nothing too out of the ordinary, its a pretty common procedure to spot issues in sewers.
