MAJDAL SHAMS, Golan Heights (Reuters) – Israeli forces opened fire on Sunday as Palestinian demonstrators in Syria neared an Israeli border fence on the Golan Heights in a protest marking the 44th anniversary of the 1967 Middle East war.

Syria state television said two protesters were killed.

An Israeli military spokesman in Tel Aviv said soldiers, who had been on high alert along the Syrian and Lebanese frontiers in anticipation of possible border-breaching protests, fired warning shots. He gave no casualty figures.

A Reuters correspondent at the scene saw at least four demonstrators carried away on stretchers by the crowd, but it was not immediately clear if they had been hit by Israeli gunfire.

The Palestinian plan is clear for everyone to see. Storm the Israeli borders then take out the cameras and camcorders, record the Israelis attacking these invaders then post it up to make Israel look like the bully for defending their border. It has already happened and is happening again.

But of course! Everyone knows that if you advocate a nation having the right to protect its own sovereign borders you are a proponent of population reduction and global dictatorship.

Get a clue.

Why should Israel not fire on them? If they get too close how do the IDF know if these men could have bombs strapped to them or not? They do not know. And with these types of people it is shoot first ask questions later.

What the hell???
If they get too close, shoot them??
By that I take it you mean "too close" to the Israeli border..
But "too close" is NOT over the border and NOT on Israeli land..

If Israel wants a buffer "kill zone" then put it on THEIR side...
You can't shoot Palestinians on Palestinian land because you think maybe one of them has a bomb..

When I am wrong I will admit it and on the text you quoted I was wrong.

Israel has vowed to prevent a repeat of a similar demonstration last month, in which hundreds of people burst across the border and more than a dozen people were killed in the unrest.

So I guess they'll just needlessly sacrifice wave after wave of civilians just to get themselves martyred? One wonders how that will work out for them.

Israel is an artificial creation of Rothschild , read the Balfour declaration . Arab palestinians lived in peace for hundreds of years and Israel has been carrying out false flags across the world . before you start off with the chosen one BS ,or poor israel broken tape-recording or holocaust monotones , know this that arabs palestinians are descendants of the biblical jews not Ashkenazim khazars .

if it was not for the rothschild financial and military aid to socialist israel(via USA) ,this artifical entity could not exist .

by supporting israel you have exposed your sympathy to socialism/communism,international bankers you commie
know that israel is socialist:

Palestinian land? This border is disputed area between Syria and Israel. It is not "Palestinian" in any form. And as far as i understand from local sources shooting started once people reached the fence on the border.
I guess that if i would get to fence on Syrian side of border i would not be shot by Syrian border police but offered breakfast.

It will work out pretty good actually. This way the Socialists in the West and the Islamic Fundamentalists in the Middle East have the whole 'oppressed' people thing to rally around. Everyone always likes to have someone to pity.

What about instead of killing them, they do like any CIVILIZED country do against unarmed protesters : use the riot police?

If they start shooting at you, then you can fire back, AT THOSE WHO FIRED AT YOU...

The Israeli government needs to have a course in human rights and decency, otherwise we should just treat it like the ignorant of human rights it is and put sanctions on the IDF chiefs and heads of government.

Who said that I support Israel? I am only saying what is logical and goes for every country. If Israelis were charging across the border into Syria or Palestine I would have said the same thing, protect your borders even if that means taking extreme measures.

I neither support nor oppose Israel because I know for certain Israel is not a friend of the United States (and should not be). Their persecution of Christians by Jewish religious leaders and other Jews within the community is disgusting. They have the Christian fundamentalists wrapped around their finger while the Palestinians have all the Environmentalist/Liberal/Socialist idiots wrapped around theirs.

Personally I would prefer my country stay the hell out of the whole region, nothing good has come from getting involved in that powder keg.

Golan lies outside Israel's borders.

Just thought you might like to know.

use the riot police?

You want Israel to invade Surya and deploy riot police there? Or allow Syrians to break through the border and then use riot police?
Again, if i would do the same on Syrian border, i will be shot by Syrians. Or on Lebanon border by Lebanese. Riot police should be used inside country , not against foreigners.

No. You put the riot police on the border with CS gas, sound weapons and rubber bullets. And you put the army behind them.

Anyone shoots, the army shoots back. All unarmed, the riot police takes care of it.

So what if protesters get 50-100m in Israel? Doesn't matter.

What Israel is doing now is bad PR once again.

Golan Heights is recognized internationally as Syrian territory occupied by Israel and is currently under Israeli Civil Administration. So while the actual claim to the territory is in dispute you cannot just say it does not belong to Israel because two different nations have claimed it as their own.

This strip is under the military control of UN peace keeping forces. Construction of Israeli settlements began in the remainder of the territory held by Israel which was governed under military administration until Israel annexed the area with the 1981 Golan Heights Law, which extended Israeli law, administration, and jurisdiction throughout the territory.[11] This move was condemned by the United Nations Security Council in UN Resolution 497,[12] which called "the Israeli decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights is null and void and without international legal effect." Israel, however, asserts its right to retain the area, citing the text of UN Resolution 242, adopted after the Six-Day War, which calls for "safe and recognised boundaries free from threats or acts of force".[13] Many states consider continued Israeli control over the Golan Heights as a tactic of self-defense, while Syria doesn't recognize Israel's right to exist.[14] However, the international community rejects Israeli claims to the territory and regards it as Syrian territory.[1][15] The area involved represents 0.65% of Syria's claimed total landmass, and about 6% of Israeli territory.

Israel does what Israel wants and they don't care what anyone else thinks, obviously..

Israel kills 3 in Syrian march on Golan

Israeli forces have killed three people and injured nine more when hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters marched from Syria towards Golan Heights at the country's border with Israel, Syrian state television says.

"Three martyrs have fallen, including a child, and nine others have been wounded by Israeli gunfire near the barbed wire on the occupied Golan," the television said on Sunday, AFP reported.

Israeli forces fire at 'Naksa' protesters

Israeli forces have opened fire along the Syrian frontier to disperse a large crowd of pro-Palestinian demonstrators attempting to storm the border.

At least three people were killed and several protesters were wounded, Syrian state TV said.

The crowd had approached the border on Sunday, a day observed as "Naksa day" or "Day of Defeat", marking the 44th anniversary of the 1967 war, when Israel occupied the area.

Lebanon army prevent protesters reaching border with Israel

KFAR KALA, Lebanon: The Lebanese Army prevented a group of men and women from reaching the border fence with Israel near the southern town of Adeysseh Sunday as Palestinian refugees held strikes in protest of a ban by the army to march along the Blue Line. The army forced the group of protesters into a bus which transferred them to an area near the Litani River. Read more: www.dailystar.com.lb...
