is everything on google?

I'm no doubt the millionth one who's asked, but I'm asking- I just did a google search on a topic I was interested in researching, and the results that came back included my original post on ATS. What are the parameters for this? Are all our posts and profiles this readily available or is there some sort of screen that protects at least somewhat?

RATS and Alt. Subst. are ATS only forums. Google has no fingers there.

Sorry- I don't understand. If you do an internet/ google search with keywords "crop circles military test" my post on ATS comes right up.

If you make a post on a publicly visible forum, it WILL be indexed by Google. And as long as the website that it is posted on has not been blacklisted, when you perform a search, it will show up in the results.

As soon as you post something online, expect it to be visible to everyone in the world.

So yes, everything you post on here, and your profile, are available to everyone on the internet, and will show up in Google searches.

The only exception is content that is posted in an area that requires a password or other authentication to access (such as a private forum), provided that the website owner has not used Google webmaster tools to give the Google crawler a dummy account in that forum, of course.

This is a good question...glad someone asked it while I was around to hear the awnser.

I google "espetutilator" and came back with nothing close to my made up word...so that is a good thing, google must have enough sense not to allow made up words and won't try to define them!

I have pulled up my own threads on ATS too...someone pointed out that my thread title "area 51...what is this?" was on the top of the google search and after checking myself I about died. How in the heck did my ATS thread make it to google that quick (my thread at the time had only been open for about an hour).

I google my name and two pages of stuff comes up...all legitimate...but still, two pages really?

I don't know how ATS works on this stuff but if you post it here...you might expect that it will turn up in a google search!

I've never tried to google my own name- I don't want to know....

I guess we'll all have to remember this and be careful- it's so easy to think of being on these forums like you're in a private home of some sort. Not true, not true.

Though it does make me wonder if there's any way ATS could put up a more general screen for the protection of us all.

I doubt ATS would want to prevent google from seeing the pages, honestly. You guys are surprised that your content shows up so high in the results. It is quite possible that ATS makes an effort to optimize this site for the search engines.

After all, how would new members (like myself) find this site if it didn't show up in any search results?

In addition, many sites link in to ATS, so Google then adds weight to any ATS results to a topic. The idea being that if a lot of people link to you, you must be important.

If you want private discussions, take it to private forums, I do. But if you make a post on ATS, keep in mind that that post will be quickly indexed by search engines, and everyone can see what you say. With that in mind, keep your posts clean, on point, and add something of substance to the topic.

10 years ago (a decade) how much information there would be

Most of the sites though go to the privacy settings usually in small letters at bottom of page
and you can OPT your name off their records search..

You can clean up some of your personal information out their.

I deleted a picture off myspace (AND MY MYSPACE ACCOUNT) my god 6/7 years ago and somehow
a google search STILL FINDS IT!!!!!!!! I requested the site remove it. (has me with my ex yuck)

Good thing it is not *one of those* pictures you catch my drift.

Somehow that picture (of your willy) gets connected with your name
you will be able to see it in an image search.
Not a big deal now, but in 10-15 years when IF I DO HAVE KID's
and their going to google search you, their you are somewhere in cyberspace
with you holding your junk.

Well that's very frightening, isn't it? I don't have facebook or anything like that, and I don't believe I've ever put anything on the net that I would be really horrified to find on a search. My results probably wouldn't be particularly bad, but I understand your warning that we probably all should google ourselves and perhaps try to correct the things that horrify us.

But I doubt I'll do it. I don't bother with my credit score either. I know people who've driven themselves stark raving mad trying to keep up with the misinformation that gets out there. As soon as they correct one thing, the next day there could be another.

Anybody who thinks they know me just from a google search doesn't know me. This might be the wrong attitude for me to have.

It keeps changing, as all things do. You used to have to buy in with points but now I think, think, not sure, that you have to have 200 posts to get in. There's no ground breaking conspiracies in there. It's just a forum that Google can't index. Say you want to use your real name or something like that. Not that I would.

I just googled my real name on google and I don't come up at all....I am glad about that!
