I was on another thread when an interesting slightly off topic issue came up and it got me to thinking, Is there a major difference between justice and revenge?

someone mentioned that revenge is wrong, wanting another person to suffer is always evil and you should always go to the authorities so that "Justice" can be served.

Now isnt going to the authorities and getting them to punish the person who wronged you just another way of getting revenge?

If someone is murdered and the murderer is sent to jail thats justice, but would the family of the victim feel like justice has been served?

Im no anarchist and I dont think people should always take "justice" into their own hands as this would just lead to chaos but what if someone hurts your family and the law wont help?
Is there ever a time when it is ok to take justice into your own hands?

Despite what people may say in anger you should under no circumstances ever kill anyone (even if they deserve it, you dont want a karma bill that big) but what about hurting them some other way?
What would cause you to snap and do this?

Revenge - The action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for a wrong suffered at their hands.
Justice - Is about fairness, Taking the proper actions. example - It's justice for a murderous monster to be put behind bars.

Exactly what I posted in the thread beforehand.

Peace to you.

So why do you put peole behind bars? because you want them to suffer.

Justice is just state sponsored revenge in my opinion.

And what about countries that have capital punishment? is it still justice if a murderer or adulterer is killed? Justice has different meanings in different places so when you say justice its not a quantifibale scientific term its relative to where you are and what the person did. The "justice" of even 20 years ago is very different to the "justice" we have today.

Once again Im no anarchist and I dont advocate violence but this is an interesting concept Ive never explored before and am interested in hearing other peoples views

the justice system is broken and if its broken or corrupted then i dont think victims are really getting what they deserve

really the person that owns the jail is profittering from victims wanting justice when they should really just seek revenge

to me, revenge seems fairer then justice in every aspect
its just that justice or the word was invented to make revenge managable and profitable to outside sources/parties

think how the words have changed meanings just like in 1984

justice= wild west ,bang bang your dead, thats justice
stayed around for a while .. hold on we can make money from this
introducing THE JUSTICE SYSTEM!

revenge=goes back to the beginning of time

My other issue with western state sponsored "Justice" is how high the rate for reoffending is. I dont endorse capital punishment but 1 thing you cant argue is that someone who gets caned or whipped very rarely reoffends as opposed to jail where its about 70% I think (I didnt check that before typing so corrections are welcome but trolling on that point isnt).
So justice for who exactly when someone goes to jail?

violence or evil acts are never the answer, but I don't think justice really exists ( in who's eyes), like most all things in life revenge is the other half of the balance ying n' yang.....like karma, I think what should define them both should be the motives and reasons behind getting revenge/ justice and the ultimate goal (survive, educate, rehabilitate, cleanse gene pool

when white blood cells in your body attacks and kills viruses and bacteria in your body that are doing harm to you is that revenge or justice, I think survival should also be included into the equation

excellent point!!!

i would love to see judges who give bail and all that too to be semi responsible too

parole boards they shouldnt really exist
if its real justice the victim should be deciding

if someone re offends both first victim and second victim should be compensated double or 100 times more or whatever seems fit

theres no trust in the system though its complely corrupted and needs a reboot
simple as that

If your kids or mother was kidnapped, and you got them back, finding out they was raped, and beat to a pulp, and suddenly some avenging angel knocked on the door with the person that did it. He throws the person to you tied up and says do what you want with him.

What would you do?
Call the police?
Or get a needle and put it up under his finger nails, maybe get a hammer and beat his testacies’ to a pulp.

Me myself ,I would torture him and probably pay a doctor to keep him alive as much as possible, by the time it’s all over, he would just have a torso left playing with me and my family. Nose, legs, arms, eyes, ears, would be gone; I would take justice in my hands in such away that I will probably get the death penalty the next day right after sentencing .

This is a very difficult question to answer, especially when thugs and crooks rely on the decency of the rest of us to ensure that they don't suffer too badly at our hands when they are caught.

I think a case can be made to leave it up to the injured party to decide the punishment. It may possibly deter would-be criminals from committing crime if they couldn't be sure that they'd 'only' have to serve a few months or years in prison regardless of how badly they had behaved.

I do think that if you're going to imprison people for any length of time every effort should be made to rehabilitate them. I truly believe that they should have no option but to learn a trade or skill during their time of incarceration.

And send them to special classes that help them to understand and empathise with other people. Sadly, some people might only ever understand the pain that others go through if something similar is inflicted on them. I'd probably rather they were 'socialised' instead of seeing them hobbling about minus a limb or two.

Read this and tell me our "Justice system" is the way to punish criminals

"Justice" and "fairness" in our criminal court system leads to 18 year ordeal for 11 year old girl

This man recieved "justice" from the courts and then 3 years later this happens.

I dont have an answer to what should have been done but in no way shape or form is this Justice

He wouldn’t of even made it to court, I don’t understand why he didn’t get the death penalty, and if im not mistaken, wasn’t he a known rapist or something any way?

Yep, was sentenced to 50 years but got 11 for good behaviour. 3 years later abducts an 11 year old and keeps her as a slave for 18 years. And who knows what else he did after being released that we dont know and will never find out about.

The Justice system at work ladies and gentleman

I start to get real emotional when it comes to kids, he will suffer now I hope. Certain people doing certain things in life just don’t receive a good heart some times, just don’t.

But then again I hope he doesn’t suffer, I hope what ever god has in store for him, I hope it’s justified through the lords eyes, who am I to judge.

But if it happened to me, then I wouldn’t even worry about it, because im going to play god that day, believe that, loll!!!!!!

LOL I hear ya

Its very easy to talk about justice and forgiveness when its removed from you but when its you or your family that are hurt its harder to be rational.

people should remember this when judging other peoples desire for retribution.

Ill say this again coz it seems most people dont read entire threads beofre posting, Im not a violent person and I dont think everyone should go out and harm anyone who has done you wrong.
My point is just that the criminal "justice" system isnt in anyway fair and doesnt reflect true justice.
Whats the answer? I dont know

I would never want to kill somebody, torture and maybe close to death, but not death it self, I have always prayed to the mother of all not to bring circumstances in my life ,because I know my self and its just no understanding, so far so good... I hope it stays that way,’ Heavens willing'

I hate killing nature, I hate stepping on ants I hat to kill spiders, if a lady bug or a praying mantis gets in the house, and I would take it out side to set it free. I love nature to a point in which I even talk to the animal and insect god, loll, I know, weirdo, but I am who I am.

I was watching a program on the discovery channel about the gulf oil spill and in the closing moments of it they showed images of dead sea life and one particular scene really got me. It was a bird with its wing covering it's beak and it was slowly moving it was in its last moments before death. I feel a great disturbance on our planet we as mortals need your help immortalundercover527 our wildlife is in need of your help. I have a open mind and will always have a open mind and am asking you that if you are what you claim to be then we need metmeanochi to cap this oil spill A.S.A.P. i know you said it won't be until 2123 but for the sake of our poor animals and our ocean dying we must at least try. Again i do believe in miracles we do have the ability to do good and produce love we must at least try. A great disturbance is filling me with overwhelming sadness and pain humans continue to destroy our environment we will never live up to our true potential. The time is NOW our planet needs our focus 100% attention on this disaster if we all unite we can stop this our minds can help in stopping our planet from suffering. Thank you.

As I have been looking at and crying at a show called whale wars, it saddens me that a mortal such as u would make me feel sad, but happy, as I have abandoned my babies in the water, out of all the bids, I never bided for my babies… I AM TRULY SORRY...IF U CAN GIVE ME A NAME OF ONE OF THE WORKERS TRYING TO PLUG IT UP, THEN...YES…RESPECT IS DUE TO ALL FORMS OF LIFE, IN ALL THE REALMS.

ahh yes,the mighty little aliens.

Do you think if insects didn’t have antennas, do you really think humans would have come up with the notion that 2 antennas can create communication?

If not for the whale, submarines would be none existence to humans.

If not for the whale and bat and dolphin, then sonar wouldn’t even have been created.

Let’s not forget the design of a bird as well as insects, because for not the wings and design of a bird, humans would still be walking.

The mighty horse, gave man the notion he could ride on 4 wheels. ‘500 horse power’

The mighty dragon fly, if not for it, man would no not of a helicopter.

The spider and the sheep, the desighn of the hardest known fabric on earth.

So yes twin,I respect what they have taught man to the fullest.
