For some this might seem like a stupid subject but its something that I have been thinking about for awhile with all of the hoopla about gays and their lifestyles, gay marriages and gays in the military. I am 23 and first started wachin SPONGEBOB when I was like 11. Hes been around for awhile. I stopped watching i for awhile but since my daughter was born I have watched it a whole lot more and noticed some werid things about him. I have notived that there is something different between SPONGEBOB and all most all the rest of the famously popular cartoon characters...

MICKEY had MINNEY MOUSE. DONALD DUCK had DAISY. BUGS BUNNY had LOLA BUNNY and even PEPE LA PU had PENELOPE LA CAT. But who does SPONGEBOB have PATRICK STAR? Its just seems weird to me that all of the rest of them always seems to have a female counterpart but he does not. The feminem way that he acts even makes me scratch my head. I dont think it would be as weird if he actually had someone you could look act that could be his girlfriend. But theres not.

Why would they make him act in the ways he does and not give him a girlfriend if it wasnt intended to show are kids that being GAY is ok? I have no problems with gay people whatsoever, I believe its their choice and they can do whatever they want. I just dont think its right that such a popular cartoon character should be portrayed in the ways SPONGEBOB is. Why force Homosexuality onto our kids? Does anyone else see this the way I do or do you see it as just being a cartoon with no effects on our kids views and behaviours?

ADD:I understand completely and feel that if kids want to be then ok its their lives...But why push it on them in cartoons?

those who raise their kids properly and not have fear of the outside world should have no reason to be afraid of a cartoon character teaching their children to be gay or that its ok to be gay. also there should be no issue with it at all to begin with. if your children want to be gay, they will be come that way themselves. a yellow sponge cartoon character wont teach them that. also a good majority of children should already know and understand the difference between fantasy and reality, especially when the fantasy part is a cartoon. if they cant tell the difference, there is a problem with the parenting.

also, dont preach about cartoons turning children gay or influencing them to be gay when your avatar is the superbly gay alien from american dad

Kind of Ridiculous if you ask me. Spongebob was created by an artist who may have put his artistic message into the cartoon. It's up to parents to be a part of their childrens lives and decide what they watch.

Personally, I tell my son it's perfectly ok to be gay. Perversion knows no limits to any sexuality. Be good to all people. Don't get caught up in the latest trend unless you are leading it etc.

I am also a libertarian so I respect homophobic views by people who want to teach their children religious views or personal fears.

I really think all the meddling in peoples lives and judgements are reserved to communist or eugenic based socialism. If you believe in freedom stop complaining and look out for you and your own. Whocares what the Jones' are doing.

ah but more kids watch that then they do sponge bob. as long as they can tell the difference between a cartoon and reality, most parents dont care what their kids watch cartoon wise (obviously as long as its not hentai or anything like that)

BUGS BUNNY had LOLA BUNNY

Mistake here. Lola Bunny was invented for the movie Space Jam in 1996. Before that, Bugs never had a 'girlfriend' or something like that. Does that mean, he was gay before?
Duffy Duck, Silvester and all the others also never had a female sidekick, girlfriend or whatever. Did the classic Looney Tunes Show even have a fermale character? I mean, even Tweety was supposed to be male...but i guess in your thinking Tweety could be some sort of transsexual, male but the long eyelashes and all

Well...let's take a look at other cartoon characters: Jerry Mouse doesn't have a female sidekick, only Nibbles...following your weird argumentation over Spongebob, that would mean that Jerry is a pedophile and teaches children it's ok to be pedophile

What about He-Man? His best friend is Cringer the Battlecat. Promoting Bestiality?

And what about the Smurf? A whole village full of guys, only one female Smurf...what are they promoting? That it's ok to have gangbangs or are all the Smurfs gay? Do they promote also Homosexuality?

You can't be serious about that. Either you are deeply afraid of homosexuality or you have too much time on your hand, to think about cartoon shows and if they teach or tell something. Spongebob is the most stupid crap next to all the japanese anime shows like One Piece or Naruto....they all don't teach anything, they're just there to entertain. Just like nobody ever learned anything from Bugs Bunny or the Flintstones or gave those shows a deeper meaning. Just watch and enjoy them.

Besides: You don't 'learn' to be homosexual. You're either homosexual or you're not (or you're bisexual), it's coming from mother nature and there's no way to change that

(It's sad that we're living in the 21st Century but there are still stupid people out there who won't accept or flat-out hate homosexual or bisexual people)

Sorry I have to say WTF here. First of all not all cartoon characters have romantic relationship of any kind. Second of all Bugs Bunny was a crossdresser and "seduced" many of his enemies but I'm not a lesbian nor is my brother gay and we both stick to our traditional gender clothing.

You cannot manipulate sexual preference. I hope Spongebob is gay and I hope we start seeing a hell of a lot more gay cartoon figures so maybe our children can escape the insanity of this issue.

i never said i hated gay people and thanks for pointing out more examples...some of thiose werent as popular and being seen like spongebob is...i believe that gays people are born that way but also feel that kids can be manipulated in different ways...ansd i didnt make this to gay bash...i made i to ask the question if this show was made to tell kids that gay was ok...so they wouldnt be as stupid or ignorant to the fcts later in life

So why is it ok to push heterosexuality on them but not homosexuality? If you've got no problem with it than they should be seen as equals ya?

"I have no problems with gay people whatsoever, I believe its their choice and they can do whatever they want. I just dont think its right that such a popular cartoon character should be portrayed in the ways SPONGEBOB is. Why force Homosexuality onto our kids?"

then what's the problem? if you are "totally cool" with gay people, then why does it matter that ONE out of a million cartoon characters acts in a non-traditionally masculine way?

i'm so tired of the "i don't have a problem with gays, i just wouldn't ever want my kids learning about it" crowd. just admit that you're homophobic, or anti-gay or whatever. if you had no problem with gays, you never would have authored this thread. can't gay people make cartoons too? can't a straight writer make up a gay character without being part of a conspiracy to subvert traditional gender roles?

i guess it's especially tiring for me, being a non-traditional heterosexual male, I get shoe-horned into the "if you're not overly-straight, you're gay" category. i don't drive a truck and try to sleep with as many women as possible, so i'm a f * g. it's just sad to see the same thinking applied to CHILDREN'S CARTOON SHOWS.
