Radioactive iodine 3,355 times legal limit found in seawater

Radioactive iodine-131 at a concentration of 3,355 times the maximum allowable level under the law was detected in a seawater sample taken Tuesday afternoon near the crisis-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, the government's nuclear agency said Wednesday.

The impacts of this disaster are really just starting to unfold. I am suprised we are not hearing more scientific opinions on the far reaching impacts this will have on the ocean.

Tepco stated this will take 3 to 5 years to contain. And while they continue to struggle these levels will continue to rise.

Luckily the Iodine has a short half life and will disappear shortly. Its the plutonium found in the ground outside the reactors that is the real worry. news.xinhuanet.com...
