ATS = Trolls, disinfo, misinfo, silly topics, etc.

I have been here for a short time. I originally came to learn about 911 truth, New World Order, and other alternative news. These have been topics that have interested me for a long time. I have also learned somme new things here such as corruption in the music industry and the possible coming of the AI singularity.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm not just here to bash this board but I am here to learn.

There is one problem though. I recently started using the "recent posts" button. That is when I started to discover the "dark side" of ATS.

I won't post links to protect the innocent, but I will mention some frequent topics on ATS. See if any of these ring a bell.

Zombies and how to kill them. (because we all know they are real).

Underground shelters and how to build them. Mostly consisting of people saying that you should buy an old Winnebago and bury it (sounds fun) Or save up $6,000,000 and buy an abandoned missile silo.

Threads about silent weapons. Complete with posts about putting silencers on air rifles.

What is the best "melee" (gaming term) weapon to use when TSHTF. Are these people serious?

Is anyone else noticing this? what happened? has it always been this way?

PS: I forgot the threads from people claiming to be members of "anonymous". What a waste of internet.

By all means if you do not like the topics, then do not comment or participate.

ATS is a place created for a WIDE variety of people. With all different kinds of likes, dislikes, opinions and beliefs. And that's the way we like it

If you don't like the topic or post, or you find them silly, don't read it. It is THAT simple. I know ATSers don't like simple solutions because it would not grant them the right to complain but it is that simple. I don't believe in aliens so I don't bother with aliens and ufo threads.

What you need to do mate is to make your own discussion website, because obviously you JUST want the stuff you like, and anything else can GTFO.

These topics are not only very informative, but I'd say the majority of ATS members find them to be the heart-n-soul of this place...regardless of how incredulous we become after reading them.

HI and welcome i have been on ATS for about 2 years but just recently registered..........i hear ya when you say stupid posts etc. but there will always be a few bad apples.But if they want to post their thoughts they should be allowed to.

But also there are a lot of good threads that share some very valuable information on ATS .
Always breaking news on here that i haven't heard of on other media/sites.

This one is even better. There are many ways to build an underground shelter. Burying and coating steel shipment containers in concrete is a good way to go about it...Requires a lot of welding and plumbing know how.

Haven't heard the Winnebago thing, as a former RV tech I can attest to the disaster this would be if it were ever actually tried.

I'm NOT nice about 4Chan Anon and their tactics. They peddle child porn, harass people, including children(for the "lulz"), and destroy businesses that don't agree with their interpretation of "free speech". Why anyone would wanna be part of this group is beyond me.

Let's say you get cable TV. You get 500 channels, but only personally watch 30 of them, ever. Statistically this would suggest that cable TV is garbage. But the reality isn't so simple. Your 30 channel choices may or may not overlap or match your neighbors 30 faves - or your uncles - or your bosses. If looked at over a broad demographic the reality is that all 500 of these channels are on at least some peoples "must see" list. Otherwise they wouldn't be there at all. Even if you don't watch those channels, there is a demand for them.

ATS is a vast and varied community and the threads represent that diversity quite literally - as it is member generated content. Much like cable... not every station is for every member. But there is always something here for all of us to enjoy, no matter what our interests.

OK point is taken. I guess I wasn't completely clear. I am not suggesting the complete overthrow of the site. Or mass bannings of posts that "I don't like".

I just noticed a trend lately that was kind of disturbing. I guess I am the only one who noticed.

I do take the path of "not reading it". But of course you can't know a topic is going to be frivolous until you at least test it out.

Thanks for your feedback, I will go back to my pattern of not attempting to contribute, since my opinion is not wanted here.

Wow the things you mention are much more sane than the stuff I read. I think the craziest thing, just cause of how widespread it is, is the nibiru stuff. They all believe something created in 1995 by a lady who thought aliens implanted something in her brain. She claimed nibiru returns in 2003. Whew that was a close one.
Anyone notice how basic physics concepts goes right over the head of at least 50% of people here. And why do these same people seem to think they understand quantum mechanics?

It is the ideas that make or break this site.

Some you won't "get".

Some you'll disagree with.

Some you'll like.

But like Volitaire said "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".

These things NEED to be expressed.

When a government does the wrong thing, how will we change & improve if no-one can speak out. Anonymously if need be.

We need to express our hopes and fears and to take action if the need arises. We need to also be disuaded from rash actions by others if we are going "too far". There is no better place for such honesty than this forum and its like.

Whatever, the users around here usually can't tell the difference between positive and negative posts anyway. It really doesn't matter because its always going to be retarded.

I was going to write something similar but figured I would give credit where credit is do.

This is not the first or last time this type of thread will be created. I agree and feel that at times the site can be full of garbage. But one mans garbage is another mans treasure. To be honest I like the large amount of thread types, gives me alot to read while at work
