I've been wondering lately if the reign of King Solomon fits the same time period of the Trojans, Miceaens, Hittites and the Sea Peoples of 1200 B.C. and their untimely disappearance.

The story goes this way:

Solomon requested wisdom from God and as an added bonus God granted him not only wisdom but also great wealth. Then he was to build the grand temple and surrounding strutures with the help of Hiram's men of Tyre.

1 Kings 7:13
"And King Solomon proceeded to send and fetch Hiram out of Tyre."

1 Kings 5:16-18
"Besides Solomon's princely deputies who were over the work, three thousand three hundred foremen over the people who were active in the work. Accordingly the king commanded that they should quarry great stones, expensive stones to lay the foundation of the house with hewn stones. So Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites did the cutting, and they kept preparing the timbers and the stones to build the house."

Everything within the temple was overlayed with pure gold imported from other lands. One land was O'phir and the other Tarshish.

1 Kings 9:27-28
"And Hiram kept sending in the fleet of ships his own servants, seamen, having a knowledge of the sea, along with the servants of Solomon. And they proceeded to go to Ophir and take from there four hundred and twenty talents of gold and bring it in to King Solomon."

Ophir was probably Ethiopia.

There was so much gold, that silver was concidered valueless. But there was another source from which silver and gold was obtained which included to the fact that no one on earth would be as rich as Solomon.

1 Kings 10:21-23
"And all the drinking vessels of King Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. There was nothing of silver; it was considered in the days of Solomon as nothing at all. For the king had a fleet of ships of Tarshish on the sea along with Hiram's fleet of ships. Once every three years the fleet of ships of Tarshish would come carrying gold and silver, ivory, and apes and peacocks.
So King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth."

Now Tarshish has been said to have been an ancient Carthaginian (Phoencian) sea port also known as Gades, which would be modern day Spain. Would all this gold and silver, ivory, apes and peacocks be native to Spain or did it originally come from some other place?

Were the sailors of Tyre travelling to the Americas from the port of Gades to collect precious metals from the locals?

Was the Atlantis legend originally from the Phoenicians? Then possibly distorted by word of mouth?

There is the Paraiba Controversey (taken from Gateway to Atlantis by Andrew Collins)

"One of the most often cited examples of Phoenician contact with the Americas is the so-called Paraiba inscription. In 1872, the president of Rio de Janeiro' Instituto Historico received a package that contained a sheet of curious handwritten characters and a covering letter. This was what was written on a carved stone found by black slaves in that region. It was identified as Phoenician script but it could not be identified until 1967 as a form of Semitic script. The translation was finally figured out:

We are Sidonian Canaanites from the city of the Merchant King. We were cast up on this distant island, a land of mountains. We sacrificed a youth to the celestial gods and goddesses in the nineteenth year of our mighty King Hiram and embarked from Ezion-geber into the Red Sea. We voyaged with ten ships and were at sea together for two years round Africa. Then we were separated by the hand of Baal and were no longer with our companions. So we have come here, twelve men and three women, into the 'Island of Iron'. Am I, the Admiral, a man who would fee? Nay! May the celestial gods and goddesses favour us well."

Is this the same Hiram that helped Solomon build the temple? There are more sources that suggest that the Phoenicians travelled to the New World in times past.

The question arrises, "Did the fall of some of these empires come around the time when Solomon lost favor in God's eyes?" In the biblical passage. Solomon was filthy rich and he collected around 200,000 wives, plus many concubines of the surrounding nations. He was told not to get wives of other nations. The wives eventually turned his heart away from God and it so angered God that he was determined to split the Nation into two Kingdoms to punish Solomon.

Were the prosperous wealthy nations cursed that day?
