Iranian warships coming to Mediterranean and Red Seas

debka.com

Less than 24 hours after the breakdown of its nuclear dialogue with the six world powers in Istanbul, Iran announced plans Sunday, Jan. 23, to senda fleet of warships, including a home-made destroyer, on operational and intelligence-gathering missions to the Red Sea and on to the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. Parts of the fleet will in fact be deployed in the three waters around Israel's southern and western shores.

I searched and didn't find this posted yet. It seems like that Iran is trying to agitate Israel by parking its ships off the shores of Israel. I don't know really what they are trying to do, but it is worth keeping an eye on.

I just thought I'd throw this out there to get your take on it. What do you think is really going on with this maneuver?

Iran is probably a bit peeved that Israel has nuke carrying subs off the Persian Gulf.

Iran is not going to war with anyone...... I wish you people would stop fear mongering and just except that peace can co-exist aswell as military operations !

Is DEBKA credible?

If these ships are on the move, they are after israel. If they are after israel, we have the makings of another very big war.

Seems as though Iran wants to flex some of their muscle, that part of the world has been in dire need of some kind of mutual understanding, then again, should have too take 3K years of arguing?

he Mowdge Class vessel has a displacement of around 14,000 tons and is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities and is armed with a variety of anti-ship, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles.
Jamaran successfully test-fired different kinds of weapons, including a powerful and intelligent missile named ‘Nour’ (light), in March.

Iranaian Naval Fleet

I for one am peeled for eyelids, there may be some kind of commotion over this act..Not that they don't deserve to have a Navy or be proud of it though. Have to wait and see...

Good find S&F OP!!

I have grave doubts this will happen or that those ships will traverse the Suez.. especially considering how constricted those waters are and the risks that poses. besides I think Iran has enough problems protecting her own waters.

And Iranians are???

Lest we forget that Iran hasn't actually started a war in over 150 or even 200 years. When was the last time the USA started a war? Well we started one 10 years ago and another one 9 years ago and well they are still ongoing.

These warships havent a snowballs chance in a hot place of taking on the isreali war machine.
The worry here is that there will be an attempt to escort some meddling do gooders to Gazaa, or even maybe get into soe kind of collision or scrape with other warships of all kinds.
There is a pile of warships floating off somallia, as well as a flock of them cruising the med too.
maybe they are looking to be provoked or to provoke something, but i think its more like they are claiming their rights to the high seas, and the rights of an independant country to float its boats anywhere in international waters ot so chooses.
The move is definately not going to be welcomed by the US or isreal.
What Iran hopes to achieve is not clear at this point, though i am sure they will make it clear in time.
For one thing, these ships are not much of a match for the isreali air forces.
The US carrier based planes also could handle them with ease.
Unless Iran has something offensive,(like the shkval(a supersonic anti ship missle/torpedo)
which they wish to try out..............................................hmmmmm

One could argue that after the Persian Russian Wars that Iran was a puppet state and not in a position to start wars in it's own right... IMHO, they (Iran) are still central to the Great Game being played with them and around them..

Just to note, the Iranian navy employs just 5 capital ships; all frigate class (think US Coast Guard), 3 small corvettes, 15 submarines and swarms of fast attack boats.

Ahaha, so how's the search for weapons of mass destruction going in the Middle-East ?

Concerning the fleet, Israel has some pretty strong allies, including a good chunk of Europe and the USA, there's no way Iran's going to do anything to them (without even considering their own army).

I totally forgot about the Lebanon issue. You are probably right on this. They will defend Lebanon if they have to against an Israeli attack. They are indeed showing rest of the world that they are there. So many ships in the area from different countries is an "accident" waiting to happen IMO.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

Well, no I'm sure the vast majority of Americans aren't evil, but does that mean that Iranians are?

Why would you think such a thing? Because the media and your government has been saying it?

Consider this though. Iran isn't an imperalistic country with hundreds of military bases spread around the globe. The United States and Israel have nuclear weapons. The United States has invaded two Middle Eastern countries.

So tell me.....who do you think is the threat to world peace here?

U.S Military Bases
