Protesting Egyptian man kills himself

www.presstv.ir

An Egyptian man has set himself on fire outside the country's parliament, in a move which copycats protests in the north African nation of Tunisia.

The man "stood outside the People's Assembly, poured fuel on himself and set himself on fire," a parliament source told AFP on condition of anonymity on Monday.

Mohammed Bouazizi, 26, sold fruit and vegetables illegally in Sidi Bouzid because he could not find a job.

Last month he doused himself in petrol and set himself alight when police confiscated his produce because he did not have the necessary permit.

*It does not say he has died so why does the headline say that? Still this could be a critically important story.*

We know what has resulted from the Tunisian man setting himself ablaze just one month ago. Now this man in Egypt is trying to create the same uprising in Egypt that occurred in the other North African nation of Tunisia.

However they were able to put out the flames and this man was taken away to the hospital. I am quite sure that there will be severe repercussions for this man from the authorities since they know exactly why he did it and what his intentions were.

One thing that all of us outside of the Middle East and North Africa must realize is that they live with very high unemployment, poor living conditions, and live under regimes with little to no democracy at all. So many are growing angry and frustrated at this lifestyle when they know that with the wealth their nation has to offer they could be doing a lot better.

What a painful way to die.

How desperate must a person be to even consider such an act?

I would say very desperate, a Tamil self immolated outside parliament last year, which followed another Tamil Self-immolation by Downing Street.. It's very sad when people feel they have no other option left open

And It is such a sad commentary on the global state of affairs that self immolation seems to be at the forefront of global protests
