Funny how some came here a posted negative responses.

FYI! I have extensive training/experience from the Marine Corps and college educated.

Assumption is the mother of all f&^$-ups!

Negative responses?
Apparently you think Polaris just vanished? Do we have that right?
Strange the millions of amateur astronomers didn't notice isn't it?
Or professionals?
You made no comment at all to any post containing any suggestions or actual knowledge.
College or not, sorry, you appear to have no understanding at all of the stars, the earths place in the cosmos , or astronomy in general.
What response do you think you should get?

no problammo, I have to admit I was like "surely not" and then read this thread, so now along with many other oddities (and I don't know much about stars in the normal sense but can tell when something appears unusual) I have witnessed recently I'm beginning to re-think what was meant by- "I am from above" and "not a part of this creation" or "there will be signs in the sun, moon and stars"

eh? he probably doesn't even know who St. Bernardus is

I saw Polaris last night, so no, it hasn't mysteriously disappeared; and the moon looks the same too.

Oh yeah, and Polaris is not part of Ursa major, it's almost directly between the tip of Ursa major and Cassiopeia.

I suggest you look harder.

I don't think I said it was a part of the Dipper.

To be exact: It is 5x the straight-line distance away from DUBHE (as the distance between MERAK & DUBHE is).

Hope it helps!

I second this, I just saw Polaris the other night as well, and even aligned my telescope with its help. It's definitely still right where it should be.

Starry Night Backyard does the same thing. Excellent program. You can choose location as well as height elevation.

As promised, I swung by a local park on my way home and checked out the sky. The Moon was precisely the correct phase and Jupiter was in the right place, It was very hazy, however, and the light from the first quarter Moon created a great deal of sky glow, washing out everything but the Big Dipper and Cassiopia. I cannot therefore confirm with my own eyes that Polaris is still there, but I think I may have an explanation as to why you were unable to see it the other night: local weather conditions. Either the light from the Moon washed out part of the sky, or there were high altitude clouds obscuring it.

Sounds like the solar system is ticking along nicely.
Apart from the affects of a long over due (according to scientific data) polar shift.- In my humble (not Hubble) opinion - After this occurance we may have to rethink our points of reference regarding the night sky.

The occurance I speak of is a reversal of our magnetic points of reference regarding the stars.
The point to which your compass points has been sceientifically measured and has been observed to be shifting at an increasing speed.
Polar reversal is well documentated by geologists working in that field. It has occured throughout all of knowm Earths history according to scientific data.

It doesn't matter where the geomagnetic poles are, the Earth's axis will still remain the same, precessing normally and predictably, Polaris will be a good reference point for a few more centuries.

he didnt say it would matter did he
just to rfink our reference point that he claim HAS changed documented by scientist
