Sure is. Defending yourself is illegal in the uk.

I wish it was a joke.

All I know about pepper spray, is that if you want an EXTREMELY powerful one, go for bear spray. It's meant to keep bears away (obviously) and it will pretty much destroy a human if its sprayed into their face while breaking into your house or assaulting you.

An update:

I ended up buying Fox Labs v5.3 pepper spray. I talked to several police departments in the area and local self defense experts.

Sabre Red and Mace brands were mentioned by self defense experts, but they also sold this product line.

Sabre Red was used by a police department, but many other police departments, my county Sheriff department, and State patrol swear to Fox Labs.

The problem I then ran into was there is no local supplier. I ended up buying from a wholesaler off the internet. I live in a metro area with over 4,000,000 people. Called over 24 businesses including police supply companies.

So if you are interested in pepper spray, do some research and talk to your local police departments.
