O'Donnell's views appear to be particularly extreme, even by Tea Party standards. In 1998, she told an MTV interviewer that masturbation is the same as adultery because "the Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. So you can't masturbate without lust."

Just when you think it can't get anymore bizarre; up steps a TPM member to cause a body to run screaming into the night.

Is this the type of logic we can look forward to after Nov? OMG at least it should be entertaining if nothing else.

And then Ms. Odonnell goes on to say.....

n an article written about the same time, the fiercely Catholic O'Donnell declared, "When a married person uses pornography, or is unfaithful, it compromises not just his (or her) purity, but also compromises the spouse's purity. As a church, we need to teach a higher standard than abstinence."

Iv'e said it in the past and was ridiculed for it that "we are looking at a right wing Christian theocracy in the near future" granted that may be slightly paranoid but with candidates like ODonnell, it certainly seems like a possibility.

And for the record I have experienced masturbation and adultery. There is really no comparison.

Oh when will the madness end? There is a real problem with Natural and artificial thinking going on. This just furthers the the inhibition of nature replacing it with perversion and repression... what a shame.

Does any one even care about adultery anymore?

*crickets chirping*

Yeah, didn't think so.

What if you were masturbating to thoughts of your spouse?
Would that still be adulterous?

As long as the religious nuts keep it in their churches and out of the government I don't care what their opinions are.

True. Adultery is infinitely more fun than masturbation! Football practice is ok, but under the lights with 80,000 fans is much, much more fun! Same concept.

As for this chick's affiliation with the Tea Party, I would say it is skeptical. Most people in the mainstream press that identify with the Tea Party are just attention whores that have latched on to a good movement and are parasitically attempting to suck the life out of it.

I am a "local" Tea Partier and I approve of Masturbation, and I say keep adultery to yourselves. Don't try to pretend it doesn't happen, and don't criticize those that are perpetrators or victims of it, and also make every effort to not be guilty of it yourself. If you find yourself guilty or victimized by adultery, look deeper and heal the wounds privately with your inner circle of family and friends, but don't go on a rampage to eradicate it, you just come off looking like a hypocrite.

I guarantee that this chick has cheated and masturbated and she feels guilty for it and is looking to crucify everyone in the world besides herself. I also guarantee that she is not connected to her local grassroots Tea Party movement. She is only connected via her own words and maybe some 3rd party contacts.

My exwife cared plenty. She cared enough to leave me with my clothes, a 1972 F150 PU truck and a yellow dog.

An expensive lesson to be sure. Did I learn?

That's the problem though, they don't want to keep it in the church or in their house. They want us all to live by their 'morally superior' rules and accept their 'holier than thou' attitudes.

I, like you, have no problem with them living by their own moral and ethical views so long as I am not required to live by them as well. I would prefer France's Secular Law; you can practice your religion but only in private areas.

Yeah, you look kinda hairy in your avatar...

Is that why you are sliding down that bamboo pole, because all that slippery hair on your palms makes it harder for you to get traction ???

Thankfully, this one is quite bats*** out of her mind and is unlikely to be elected in the state of Delaware.

If she used the word country or if the quote about masturbation included a bit about making it illegal I'd happily sound the alarms.

As stupid as this type of ideology is; what concerns me is that there is a huge element in the ranks of conservatives, willing to listen and even believe this kind of BS and return us to being a nation of intolerance and followers of dogmatic yahoos.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Is that truly the case? Or is it more the case of MSM picking out the most radical and fringe of any group and attempt to parade that example as typifying an entire group?

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

I see your point loud and clear, sadly even with all the events that has taken hold of this nation in the last decade and the propaganda been used by our own political figures, is people that still trust the corruption we call government in this nation including their pay and buy out whores.

I'm afraid you are correct.

A little over a year ago the Tea Party was a wonderful thing. Now they seem to be a victim of their own press. Their views went from open-minded conservative, to right-wing nut conservative. It is less apparent on a local level, but I fear they are starting to think they have to believe with the MSM view of what it means to be a Conservative.

I bring up abortion in my next paragraph because it is a sticking point in my local Tea Party. They only want to support pro-life candidates. I am pro-life, but most of the candidates take it to the extreme and I don't support that. I am a pro-lifer to an extent, but we have to leave latitude for Doctors to make important decisions for the safety of the mothers. From a religious view I think a fetus is a baby, my baby was born 12 weeks early and he is a wonderful little monster! BUT, I told my wife and her Doctors all along both pregnancies, that her life was more valuable than the baby's. So, from a practical standpoint there has to be the option of abortion on the table in extreme cases.

Now, we see that the pro-life argument has wiggled into deeper and deeper recesses of religion and sexuality. If this crazy chick that is against masturbation and wants to say that sins of one spouse extend to sins of the other spouse, then she is reading the Bible in a literal manner that could lead to making divorce illegal and wife-beating and human sacrifice legal! I wonder if she is willing to extend her literal translation of the Bible all the way to crazyland or if it is just masturbation she is after?

In my humble opinion, Conservative in the most literal and simple sense just means a return to Individual Responsibility in all things. Less legislating, less litigation, less regulation, and more personal responsibilities for our actions good or bad.

I thought she was talking about catching diseases from the loved one, husband bringing home AIDS from a whore, kinda thing...If she is a Catholic, Catholics don't believe in vicarious sin, but in individual free will...Adam didn't automatically fall when Eve ate the apple, he had to take a bite himself to get dragged down...ain't that how the story runs...

- But no, I just re-read the story, and her quote does mention pornography in the same context, and you can't catch a virus by looking at something, so...I don't know ...

i would like everyone to make note of the date this was said.

i think we can all agree that 1998 was a pretty boring year and bickering over small non-issues was the norm back then.

fast forward a few years and ask her if masturbation is such an issue.

I often wondered why conservatives are conservatives...fiscally I can fully understand and even subscribe to, with only some variations....

Why did a conservative movement for fiscal responsibility basically drop that part, and instead become more and more the theocratic party...they don't even care all that much about fiscal responsibility anymore...they care more about social issues which are none of their damned business...

If a conservative movement dropped the religious overtones, I would consider being a conservative...who doesn't want to cut spending and increase personal responsibility...all these massive ineffective government programs and out of control military spending (one day a conservative will nut up and ask why the hell we need such a massive military when we are supposed to like peace). Yet, to subscribe to this general philosophy, I must also accept that replicating cells, like cancer, is somehow life..and prayer should be taught in public school, that thongs on a beach infuriates jesus and so illegal, That we should never consider cloning for medical purposes because that also gets God mad, that God hates science and especially environmental science so we should ignore all findings, etc etc etc

a endless supply of social nonsense that completely loses independents...its really damn frustrating...and the worst thing is, the media has done a fantastic job in selling the whole package to an extreme and (in my opinion) conflicted view of politics...talk to your local conservative...or liberal...and they will actually think they have free thought...then spout off how they are exactly how the media has told them to be in regards to conservative or liberal.

The problem is, it is now a sin to be reasonable in public...especially running for public office. When was the last time you heard of a liberal republican run for office? You haven't, because they have eliminated any variation now...hell, McCain was as close as they dared come...and now they brought him back into the fold of clones.
