www.debka.com...

Yep, know it's Debka but thought it was worth a quick mention.

Many will recall the prime minister's solemn reiterations that a nuclear-armed Iran would pose an existential threat to Israel and noticed how fast they have faded.
His "security pledges" regarding a future Palestinian state on the West Bank should therefore be taken with a hefty grain of salt. Indeed, according to DEBKAfile's Washington sources, the prime minister may already be listening to a US proposal to assign the policing of the Jordan Valley and West Bank mountain peaks to NATO troops, most of them American.

Most of the article is their usual rant about the Bushehr reactor (which is online from today), but the last few lines are interesting if true if the US are really proposing to police the West Bank with NATO troops & mostly US troops, as this would fit into recent suggestions that the US is getting ready to attack another country in the middle east - possibly Lebanon or Syria?? Or another staging post to attack Iran when the time comes this year or next??

And would explain Israel's eagerness to return to negotiations with the Palestinians in just over 2 weeks time.

Omitting any comment on the Bushehr reactor, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that Israel's security would be paramount in a deal with the Palestinians. He issued a list of stipulations, such as the demilitarization of territory handed to the Palestinians - only side arms for police; Israel would retain control of the Jordan Rift Valley bordering the Kingdom of Jordan and the mountain ridges forming the spine of the West Bank, they key to defending Jerusalem and Israel's coastal plain.

Oh yeah, great. Throw a bunch of Americans, AGAIN, in to the part of the world they hate us most and then complain about blowback.

Of course they do have to find SOMETHING for those returning troops from Iraq to do. But sending them to protect our OWN borders? No chance. Figures.

You're right it's a stupid idea, but the US govt. is full of stupid ideas so that only makes it more the likely.

Could just be wishful thinking by Israeli media though, but since tensions increased between Israel & Lebanon, Washington may be thinking ahead to their next war whilst the world talks about Bushehr reactor, and their failed attempts to start a war in Korea (so far) ... until they manage to piss off China with joint military exercies with S.Korea in the Yellow sea next month.

Instead of NATO or US troops, UN peace keeping force is a better alternative imo.
