Much of the fluoride added to municipal water supplies across the United States is imported from China, and is contaminated with heavy metals, according to a warning by Bernard Miltenberger, president of the Pure Water Committee of Western Maryland.
There has been no fluorspar mine production in the United States since 1996; supplies were imported or purchased from the National Defense Stockpile... In 2001, the main fluorspar-producing countries, in order of importance, were China, Mexico, South Africa, Russia, Spain, and France (USGS 2002b).
The report noted that the fluoridation chemicals used for the city's water had been evaluated, and were found to contain lead levels of 40 milligrams per bag and arsenic levels of 50 milligrams per bag. The bags were being imported from China under no regulatory monitoring of acid or salt content.
gram of Arsenic (As) is $3.20 for 1 gram.
We can no longer trust our local governments to do the right thing for its citizens. I find it so ironic that the same federal government that is demanding small communities under the clean water act, like Mount Savage to join to the Frostburg Regional water supply, because of an overt concern over possible ground water contamination, then allows this toxic waste byproduct from China to enter this country and be added to this same regional water supply.
