So, please don't blame me for posting what I believe to be true based on everything I've read. I don't live there, I can't see for myself. But all tne news paints a bad picture of toxic sea and toxic air down there.

The point of the article was that Obama didn't swim in the Gulf anywhere near the oil spill area, which is what the photo and the propaganda were implying.

True on two counts.

1. The MSM is painting a very bad and incorrect picture.
2. Obama didn't swin anywhre near the oil spill, because the oil spill isn't anywhere near the beach!

For Obama to have swam near the oil spill, he would have to have gone swimming off the Louisianna coast, and nobody swims there, even before the oil spill.

I am no Obama fan, and although this may have been propaganda, at least it was accurate this time. The coasts of Florida are up and open, and pretty, and clean, and more people should be coming back here for vacations.

On another note, you are correct that people should be getting their businesses back up and going, but you have to understand the seasonality of this area to understand why they are irreversibly devastated. The tourist centered businesses make an entire years worth of revenue in about 4 months. School is starting for different areas of the country over the next 2-3 weeks. Vacation season is over! These little mom and pop beach bars and hotels, and restaurants are not able to keep a years worth of operating capital on hand. Missing one tourist season is a death certificate for most small businesses. The State Government is faring much better either. The Sales Tax Revenue from the summer keeps the state afloat all year. I am a state employee, we haven't had a raise in 6 years, we have lost positions for 3 years in a row, they have increased the cost of insurance and retirement, and now we will be facing pay cuts!

So, while the beaches are perfect, the water is safe, and the lifestyle hasn't changed. The economic damage is already done. Obama was actually attempting to help us out, and he got this one right for a change.

You know, I'm not from the Gulf. I haven't seen first hand what is going on there and as we know, the media aren't allowed there so it's a confused picture we get.

If the water down there is really ok, and the air and the people are ok too, I'm telling you, that would be the very best news I've had all year. I would be ecstatic for everyone down there, truly.

Well, if that is the case, that is totally brilliant. I hope the people down there can weather the impact and therefore get back on their feet.

I wonder why the MSM would deliberately paint such an incorrect picture? MSM says what they are told to say, so would be gaining if they are lying about the extent of the damage?

This is what we have become. What a sad, little country we are.

Well you know...all the oil just magically "dissolved" or "evaporated." At least the NOAA says so. www.noaanews.noaa.gov...

"The vast majority of the oil from the BP oil spill has either evaporated or been burned, skimmed, recovered from the wellhead or dispersed much of which is in the process of being degraded. "

You can spray any chemical you want on oil...it doesn't "dissolve or evaporate.". Who did they call... David Copperfield?

If he swam in any part of the Gulf, then we voted Bush the president the first time around.

Although I agree that they say what they are told to say, this is also the era of big headlines. Good News doesn't sell, and worse yet it doesn't provide future sales. If they tell everyone it is ok, then what will they talk about tomorrow?

Also, there is absolutely no restriction on the beaches for cameras or news crews. I have seen the same stuff as you, and maybe it is a little different over in Louisianna, but here in Florida everyone carries a camera. I did see one YouTube video of a lady being harassed in Pensacola. I think it was a Barney Fife trying to flex a little, as soon as the woman threatened to call his supervisor, he left her alone.

I contended from the very beginning that if it was plugged before August, we would have one bad year, followed by about 2 years of recovery, and about 25 years of the occasional tar ball washing up. Here we are in August and things are going just as planned. Many businesses will fail, and many people will profit from deflated real estate and bankruptcies, but 2 years from now it will all be a distant memory.

Well, Obama did visit the Florida Gulf Coast, but I don't see him, nor his daughters covered in grimy crude oil.

I swam in the Gulf! So did thousands of others this weekend!

I also voted for Bush the first time, and I was also part of the people in the Panhandle that were conveniently left out of the MSM when we still had over an hour at the polls. The stupid MSM was reporting Florida was a lock, when the most conservative part of the state had yet to vote or be counted. When the polls started shifting, they were left with egg on their face, and they manufactured a giant ordeal to save themselves. Florida voted for Bush. Even after they threw out all those old people conservative votes because of hanging chads and blurry postmarks, even after they ignored the panhandle, even after they fought it in court, Bush still won.

Why does MSM hate the Panhandle?

You are all so quick to jump to conclusions without a shred of proof. Many of you are crying about how your president has lied to you again, get some proof and then maybe this theory will be relevant. Right now you are all getting riled up over nothing but biased speculation...

ATS is getting worse by the day.

Since when is a bay separated from the body of water that feeds that bay?

You people make no sense. What did you expect? They weren't going to drop the family out of a Coast Guard chopper into the middle of the gulf? St. Andrews Bay is part of the gulf coast. Just like any of the beaches. It's all the same water. Just like the LA swamps and wetlands.

What kind of school did you attend where you never learned how water moves along a shoreline? That hatred is making you look stupid.

Fox News is lying again. He did swim in the gulf and they had a giant bottle of Dawn dishwashing detergent ready to clean him off afterwards. Great photo op. "Save the Presidents"

Why wouldn't he swim in the gulf? He doesn't have gills.

His team of comrades would scout out the area, test the water, and make
sure it was safe for him to take a dip.

There is no reason for him not to take a swim. People are doing it everyday.
Sure the oil is there, and Corexit is there, but the Gulf is a vast body of
water.

There would be more oil-per-water in your bathtub if you filled it up
and dropped a bottle cap full of crude in. I'm not trying to diminish
the extensive damage to wildlife and marsh and habitat, but the Gulf
of Mexico as a whole is going to recover quite quickly.

The spill maybe bigger than the Valdez, but the Valdez was a sequestered
area the Gulf is not.

I think all of this will be old news pretty soon. Just some lingering complaints
from local tourist town entrepreneurs and fisherman.... I hope BP makes
it right with them.

Yes he does and for the most point, to many really are this dumb and naive as they continue to loose their freedoms in an attempt to maintain their (already gone) "American dream". Now a nightmare. Never has deception been so global and so intense. Its here its now and its all to real. Individuals refuse for many good reasons, acceptance being able to accept this evil is only one of many.

yeah my money is on he did not take a swim in the gulf....just like everything else he does is behind close doors, gay sex, passing laws, swimming in the gulf, if he had nothing to hide and a point to be proven, he would have invited every press photographer from around the world to prove this....down with the socialist obama!

If the water looks clean, then it is clean when it comes to oil.

Isn't that kind of like 'sticking your head in the sand'? Oil dispersant emulsifies the oil, it doesn't get rid of it, it dilutes it so to speak, it's still there whether you see it or not, but then you can always subscribe to the old saying 'out of sight out of mind'. Added to the emulsified oil you now have 'Corexit', how good it that for the Gulf and human contact???

Let's get back to this subject a year from now and see what shape the Gulf is really in with some chemical testing, if it's bad I know we won't see you in here anymore will we?

Love the Frank Chu sign in your avatar - a real San Francisco landmark, that guy.

But does Frank know you're using his sign?
