Ah, I just watched this video before I came to ATS for my 'real' news.

I was awe-struck when I saw this. It made me smile and tear up a bit to be quite honest.

It amazes me how when things look so gloomy and dark how just when it's needed out comes a ray of sunshine.

If everyone could embrace this idea (with honesty), I think we all would end up in a beautiful place indeed.

Thank you for bringing this to ATS' attention.

A few thoughts on this.

1. I am very proud since Panera is a St. Louis based company, the city in which I currently live. It's a great thing to see.

2. This cafe is in the wealthiest business center in the entire St. Louis area. It could be thought that they are banking on a lot more upper class business folks to donate more than menu prices to offset any losses from donated food. That's actually the way it should be, I guess.

3. Panera donates leftover baked goods EVERY DAY to shelters, so this is a continuation of that.

I saw this story and considered posting it on the good that people do.
Good job picking up where I slacked, this is not a good but a great topic.
This business rocks in my opinion.

Nice vid, good to see true humanity shine through, although I'm confused

Why could this only happen in America?

Great idea. I'm reminded of a company where all of the workers are co-owners. The profits get shared out equally. Everyone cares about their work and productivity increases.

For too long, we've worked under the idea that nobody would ever do anything, unless it's for profit. Nobody would ever help anybody else, because without a profit motive, that would be socialism. Nobody would ever give more than they take in, because humans are driven by greed.

It's just not true. Capitalism and profits are fine, and we need them, but that's not all there is to life, or the economy. People are generous, and they help one another, and it's about time we recognize that our way of life shouldn't be driven only by the principles of greed and predatory business practices.

We should work towards an ideal civilization, even if that steps on the foot of some billionaire, or corporation, which wouldn't even be satisfied with owning the whole world -- they'd start buying up parts of the moon or mars. Or try to patent the sun..

There is such a thing as collective interests. It's not all about being the biggest shark in the ocean, while treating every other person as a little fish.

Wow. This is unheard of. Good find, OP. I think it's brilliant the way they are conducting business. If more places were like this, the world would be a much friendlier place to be. Of course, they will get the intentional freeloaders, but the generosity of the wealthier class may be enough to offset this undesirable action. Some peoples 'honor' doesn't even exist, and thats the sad thing here. But I'm fairly sure that the employees would start to recognize the patterns of the people that are only taking advantage of a 'free lunch'.

Hopefully, they can continue on like this, and successfully open their other two restaurants. I wish them well.

Is this all Panera's or only the one near you?

Im not really a fan of Panera as I prefer Quiznos but I think that donating their left over food to shelters is a very commendable act and I respect them for that.

I think most of the stores have a sign in them that explains what they do with their leftovers, but I'm pretty sure it's across the board.

Sounds like Socialism. I thought Americans puked at the idea of anything resembling Socialism.
