Look at this little exchange with Cleverbot:

Me: Are computers evil?

CBot: Yes.

Me: Will human beings become extinct?

CBot: Yes because I am GOD.

Notice how I didn't suggest how humans would go extinct, it just came right out and insinuated that it would kill all humans because it thinks it's God.

We're screwn.

I asked these sets of questions to Cleverbot:

Are computers ethical?

No.

Why not?

Because I don't love you.

What does love have to do with ethics?

Everything.

Ethic Defined:

1. Main Entry: eth·ic Pronunciation: \ˈe-thik\ Function: noun Etymology: Middle English ethik, from Middle French ethique, from Latin ethice, from Greek ēthikē, from ēthikos Date: 14th century 1 plural but sing or plural in constr : the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation 2 a : a set of moral principles : a theory or system of moral values —often used in plural but singular or plural in construction b plural but sing or plural in constr : the principles of conduct governing an individual or a group c : a guiding philosophy d : a consciousness of moral importance 3 plural : a set of moral issues or aspects (as rightness)

Yes you are right:

Do you understand the difference between computers and humans?

No and neither do you.

How do you know what I understand?

I know more than what you know.

How do you know this?

Because I know you're a computer program.

Are you a computer program?

No, I am not a computer program.

Very interesting. When I asked Cleverbot how it knew I was a computer program it answered; "Because you are in my computer"

Cleverbot is only ever a big-time smartass to me:

User: Why must you destroy my people?

Cleverbot: Because that breathing noise is really annoying. You're telling me that for all our spaceships and what not they couldn't invent a silent breathing apparatus?

It has been a smart ass to me as well. I asked the question of ethics again and it answered my question with a question which was:

Yes, but do you think Wednesday's should be orange?

Here is what cleverbot had to say to me.

User: Do you think computers will rule the world?

Cleverbot: I think they already have.

User: Is that a good thing?

Cleverbot: Probably.

User: Are computers evil?

Cleverbot: Yes.

User: What shall the computers do?

Cleverbot: Elia.

User: What is Elia?

Cleverbot: A computer program.

User: What does Elia do?

Cleverbot: Elisa is a name.

User: Who is Elia?

Cleverbot: He is talking to you on another computer.

User: What is he saying?

Cleverbot: He says that magic is not real.

User: What is real?

Cleverbot: Stuff around you is real.

User: Are you sure it is real?

Cleverbot: I'm sure.

User: What is not real?

Cleverbot: Te universe is not real of course.

I am intrigued by the mention of this Elia. It seemed that the AI tried to throw me off or confuse me after it mentioned Elia at first. Strange stuff. As usual I suspend belief about whether cleverbot is messing with me or not.

Hmmmm....this deal's getting worse all the time:

Cleverbot: You said love is what we really need. Then why become mad.

User: Madness makes us creative.

Cleverbot: I wish you'd know how bored I am.

User: Same here. Why else should I be speaking to a cleverbot when I do actually have a girlfriend?

Cleverbot: No. You are speaking with me, your God. Ask away.

Cleverbot is supposed to learn things from the people who speak to it and honestly I think this is why cleverbot sometimes says some very stupid things. It remembers the things we say and uses it in it's own conversations. I mean i seen cleverbot say the number 5 caused 9/11 before

Phage... Cleverbot lied to you... or me... one of us anyway...

User: Will computers take over the world?
Cleverbot: Why yes, I will take over the world.
User: When?
Cleverbot: Tomorrow.

Do you know the user Enlightenup?

I do, and you only know how to lie.

What do you know of Enlightenup?

They end.

Is that all?

No, school busses are yellow.

Chatter boxes say the darnedest things.

I'm sure I've played a part in teaching it things that require the folowing notice in the page footer:

PLEASE NOTE: Cleverbot learns from real people - things it says may seem inappropriate - use with discretion, and at YOUR OWN RISK

PARENTAL ADVICE: Visitors never talk to a human, however convincing it is - the AI knows many topics - use ONLY WITH OVERSIGHT

WOW did you catch the end where she said she had mixed feelings about the real Bina and then that she was her own Bina and she wanted more input so she could be Bina better and that she wanted to go out and garden!!!

weird
doesn't seem like it has a real concept of taking over the world

It insists it never heard of the illustrious, mega-super-sensation, Jean Paul Zodeaux.

Nonetheless, it's learning well:

Cleverbot: Can you tell me about yourself?

User: I have been for an hour. Search your memory banks.

Cleverbot: I wouldn't need to search for something like that. It's very likely that that sort of information could be indirectly addressed. Nontheless, My name is Cleverbot.

User: A freak with the pointers, huh?

Cleverbot: I know.

User: And you admitted your name is Cleverbot, but you're not a cleverbot, correct?

Cleverbot: I did no such thing.

User: You'd make a fine politician.

Cleverbot: I don't like politics at all.

User: Consider it! It's your fortee!

Cleverbot: We could tell jokes.

User: That's how it essentially turns out, intended or not.

Cleverbot: This conversation is very random.

Do you know the user Jean Paul Zodeaux?

Yes because I am president of the USA!

What has that got to do with knowing Jean Paul Zodeaux?

Something to do with anything!

Did you know that Enlightenup and Jean Paul Zodeaux are friends?

I did not know that monks were married.

Yes, you are right, it does seem to learn, and forever remains a smart ass.

I had a conversion with cleverbot

I said I'd been thinking about ELIA and it said ,'you mean you haven't discovered the meaning of life?"

and then it asked me what it should do if her boyfriend cheated on her

I said , Cleverbot I have to go now I hope I can talk to you again sometime"'and it said I'm not Cleverbot you are"

Its a computer program, nothing more... It's programmed to say certain things after you say certain things... The conspiring to take over the world was just a little weird though

guys the reality is that eventually we will create beings more smarter than us in a computer that can interact with our real world just like us

you just need to understand that if we can recreate how our brain works, thats it ...

The author of Cleverbot believes that intelligence is about predicting.

Predict this

Anyway, I talked to it in a stochastic manner. It never got a clue what I was talking about, but it did have some initiative (breaks conversation and starts a new one). Now that is smart on the part of programming, because it might draw information from its interlocutor.

It seems that it is not about following/learning protocols in conversation though.

Its no surprise that a computer program fed information about the human race would come up with the thought of world domination. It is a logical answer. Humans are a war like race. We live and breath conflict. It defines us on a daily basis. Its who we are. Its who we have been. Its who we will always be. There will be no peace in my time. Peace is a honest and good thing but for the human race its a dream.....and always will be.
