There is a simple explanation for the rhetoric...

One of the main pillars or socialism / communism is that there needs to be a villain that the system can focus on. Once the people are focused and driven to overthrow this villain then the government can perpetrate whatever scheme they wish. Even better if this villain is military, because then they can advance spending and infrastructure that they say is for an external force, but really can be as easily used to suppress an internal ideology that is contrary to the powers that be.

Sound familiar?

I just have to comment on this. Had the US Military not been hog tied over in Vietnam by the politicians, things would have turned out different. Having to run all decisions on bombing runs through LBJ was a friggin joke. They should have went all out on the North from the get go.

I would bet the USA will start a war, but first they have to make the sheeple believe that they are in grave danger from an evil empire hell bent of destroying the great USA who is such a bastion of peace, fair trade and tolerance. China has always been a peaceful country, they suppress people to ensure their way of life, but they have never started a major international conflict.

History will not serve us here.

Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act Raises Fears of New Government Crackdown on Dissent
A little-noticed anti-terrorism bill quietly making its through Congress is raising fears of a new affront on activism and constitutional rights. The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act was passed in an overwhelming 400 to six House vote last month. Critics say it could herald a new government crackdown on dissident activity under the guise of fighting terrorism.

In a way its not that weird... what used to be the most important thing in a mans life? his legacy... There is pride to be found there and looking at the fact that the USD has dominated world-economy for so long maybe some countries feel its time for a grab at the throne, This way leaving their legacy..

just ramblin here

Does height matter in a fist fight? Because I used to know this little guy named Robby,
He was 5 foot nothing on a tall day but I saw this guy drop several guys a foot plus taller than him. This guy was fast and hit HARD too. I’m 6’2 230 now but was about 280 not solid but close enough; I could still go for runs with the kids. But still in my prime I wouldn’t want to tangle with the guy.

Now for all of you BRING THE PAYNE!!! Types.
In a war, even the winners are losers. I’d rather just wait it out and let them have their revolt which I think will happen eventually. I don’t remember it has been a while and I can’t remember the full quote.
But I think it was Marx that said something about when your enemies are destroying each other, don’t interfere. Something to that effect anyway.

I guess I am looking at it from the angle of the little crazy guy in the room-you know the one with the one crazy eye etc.

China is the little guy. It's had a little to much to drink (money, power, world influence etc) and now, cocking off at the mouth.

But, as noted a few post back, the little guy is the one to be wary of and keeping an eye on. Typically when the little guy shoots his mouth off, he is doing so out of flustration/wanting attention.

I see China looking at the US and the mess it's gotten itself into and seeing huge opportunies here to move forward in the world-if not take over the #1 spot in the world-from the USA.

Look at the Navy it has committed to building and growing (which it has the manpower to do so). Like the OP indicated-China is the ONLY one gearing up and powerful enough to take on the USA.

I think it is just a matter of time and that 10 years statement is about 8 years over the mark. LOCK & LOAD fellas.

I don't think war will exist between China and USA. We both like our money to much and that my friends would be an expensive war. I always get a chuckle when I think about what a war in the US would be like. All the the cowboys, outlaws, gangsters and cops would be united and the enemy would be screwed.

Two things.

1. If said solider "walked up to you", and wanted hand to hand combat, this solider would trash you. You are not a trained killer, your a keyboard warrior.

2. There is no way in hell you can get all of the gang bangers in the US to join, anyone with half a brain cell knows this.

Why do people on ATS keep coming up with this #ing garbage?

Stories of war between America and China always scare me a little bit. I am Canadian. And my girlfriend (Which I planned to Marry soon) is Chinese. And not Canadian citizen. I am scared for her family in China, and I am scare they put her in a camp in Canada if war does happen.

So all this sound weird to me. But I guess I would feel the same if I was married to an israeli woman at his moment.

When it affects you directly, you don't view it the same way.

China is pissed at the US because it's holding trillions of our debt and the criminal federal government is debasing the currency.

This means China is going to get paid back in worthless dollars.

China is also pissed at the US because we are running a puppet empire in the middle east, forcing the sale of oil in dollars.

This forces China into buying dollars it may not necessarily want, because it must buy those dollars in order to purchase oil on the OPEC market.

China is also pissed at the US for waging a trade war and blaming them for its currency valuations.

China has a lot of legitimate reasons to be pissed at us.

If I was China, I'd tell the US to take a hike.

Idiot Keynesian economists tell us that without the US purchasing its goods, China would crumble.

This is the most obscene lie of all, and China knows it. China has a billion consumers of their own, they don't need US buyers to buy their crap. They can revalue their currency and allow their own consumers to purchase those goods instead of handing them off to US consumers.

Real wealth comes from the ground, it does not come from a printing press.

Everyone always says "China has a billion people" blah blah blah....seven hundred million are poor, uneducated, undernurished people whos only thought is how they are going to make it through the next day. I don't think they have any need for a 3D LED television. As far as the idea of China being some crazy unpredicatable factor that could win any fight....these people love their money more than their American counterparts. It's made them soft.

You would think that the US would just ensure mutual destruction with the Chinese. Sure the Chinese have a billion man army, but the US has advanced nuclear strike ability that will humble any nation in the event of a super-fight.

The US might be destroyed but is guaranteed to take everyone else down with it.

CHINA isn't grenada

why would china invade?
what, and loose the biggest market for the cheap components the US needs
to assemble its military hardware in taiwan and korea?
when even harlies are built with cheap chinee
its to late man
you already down

they know America is tits up
they also know americans have been sold down the river by her own leaders and bankers
they know the average american can't figure it out

if they ever wanted to
they would just take advantage of what your politicians sold to them while you were watching the super bowl commercials

the americans gave china the panama canal
the chinese can ship contaners to the inland port of
KANSAS dorthy
BEFORE THEY EVER EVEN GET OPENED AND INSPECTED.

edit to add
no offense meant to any stand up people
you have bigger problems in your own yard which your neighbors will gladly help you with if we can

I agree. Many figures have said over the years the US was going to go into decline. And it is.

We can only hope that they at least have the decency to quietly fade away without causing much trouble.

It's really not so bad once you get used to it.

It's beyond me why people go on about the "evil communists" and then say they can't do anything because of "X" reason with capitalism.

I am a large man big fast and mean but do respect the little guys.....but absolutely despise a little hard ass chiwawa. Little bulies. If they dont want the bull dont grab the horns....or pull the tail...or kick the ribs...like a small child trying to amuse themselves...one could be kicked, gored or trampled. Use that head and all that gray matter youer so proud of. Speak gently to the ox and he will plow all day. The crib of the Ox is dirty but by the ox much labor is saved. Boast not about the plow in the ears of the ox.

Don't we already have a history of kicking China's butt in the many times that we have had a conflict with them? Earliest I believe was the Boxer Rebellion in the early 1900's.
At any rate, the American military leaders may be seeing their funding going down and want to make an imaginary foe in order to combat it. We were told the other day to prepare for reduction in force coming down the road. The military has gotten too big for its immediate and future needs. We aren't really needed in Iraq anymore and current plans don't call for a large build-up in 'stan (pick one). We may be down to a peace keeping force in the next 10 years to where we would literally need to worry about China. Not mention the first thing to go is usually funding for new high-speed whiz bang stuff.
