I did a quick search, turned up nothing. I thought this would be all over ATS.

160 feared dead in India air crash

An Air India passenger plane crashed as it came in to land in the southern city of Mangalore on Saturday, killing most of the 166 people on board, officials said.

Is it just me , or are more and more planes over running the runway lately??

It does seem like we are having accidents more frequently. Other news sources are reporting possible survivors which in an airline accident is rare.

I hope the best for them.

Yep, makes one wonder, if there's a lot of stupid pilots lately.

Or perhaps a lot of inexperienced ones.

Because we all know that they cannot "short-sheet" the runways.

I saw the news article on it earlier and just did not dig into it.

Prior to this, the Polish President going down was suspicious, because of the events him and his Administration never made it to, but I've not dug into the India incident thoroughly enough other than to make this post.

It does seem like more and more planes are having issues (as in crashing)

I was watching nightline and playing around on the computer and they did a few moments of coverage. Just glancing at the tv it was really hard to figure out if this happened earlier in the day or what was going on. The only thing that stood out was the anchor saying that the number of planes traveling off the runway seems to be increasing.

And here is a link from foxnews.com

Maybe it's experience. Maybe it's paranoia.

Who was on that plane? Is there a list yet?

apparently there is 8 survivors, it raises a question for me, i wonder where the on the plane you could sit to have a greater chance of survival ?

yahoo news said it heard reports from one TV station that the plane hit someting after landing. I hope the investigation uncovers every bit of the wreckage to see if that was true.

how can it skid off the end of the runway due to rain of all things? doesn't reverse thrust take care of most of the speed which makes runway friction less than relevant? could a tire have blown? didn't ATC or anyone in the airport see what happened?

Air India got a bad reputation due to all the mid air breakups in the "LOST" television series. Hope the lack of information in this case means its a made for TV MSM hoax. Any local confirmation form ATS members?

Another source.

I very much doubt it was a stunt for Lost.

This is the third incident involving planes this month, after the crash in Africa and the one in Afganistan.

Planes seem to be falling from the sky at the minute!
