I could not believe what I was reading when I saw this article out of PressTV.

12-year-old American arrested for doodling on desk

"Alexa Gonzales, a seventh grader at the Junior High School in Forest Hills, had written the words "I love my friends Abby and Faith. Lex was here 2/1/10
" on the classroom desk with a green marker when the school principal decided to have her arrested by the New York Police. "

I swear we must have been pushed into an alternative universe by someone if this is happening in America. It is not only highly disturbing but almost doesn't even surprise me anymore. I see articles and reports of things like this at least once or twice a week now and like it states in the article, children are getting arrested at younger and younger ages now at days. I myself went through many different situations of teachers and principals taking things wayyyy out of proportion and calling the "authorities" I hope people will find out the name and number of the principal and the local police chiefs number to give um a piece of your mind!!!

I completely agree.

One can look at this many ways, the bigger the picture, the clearer it is on who is wrong in their doings.

At least they didn't beat her to a bloody pulp and taze her into a coma. Schools are getting desperate now. Even back when I was in public school we heard all the time about zero tolerance with drugs, weapons and graffiti/vandalism.

This is just silly. What's next anyone with posters on or inside their locker get's arrested as well?

Sorry, but what has society come to?

The most the girl should have reprimanded and have been made to wash it of the desk.

That's what we do in the UK, at least. This is a stupid excuse and one of the reasons why there are not enough prisons for those who commit serious crimes.

This was already posted somewhere on ATS and I stand by my argument. Arrest her...NO, make her butt stay behind after school for some desk cleaning duties for a week...YES. She would learn more by having to clean up her wrongdoing then simply asking cops to handle it. And notify the parents before the cops, if ANYONE should make her clean the desks, it should be Mom & Dad.

I just read this a couple of hours ago. I know from experience that in college dorms you can not have posters up that depict drugs or alcohol or you will be fined. Even if you have a dirty bathroom or a sink full of dishes you can get in trouble. very sad if you ask me

If she was arrested, I would have been shot on the spot in highschool.

Weird world these days.

I agree! That is what i had to do when i was in highschool but now this Zero Tolerance thing is going WAY to far.

As my idol George Carlin once said:

"I get weary of this zero tolerance bulls**t. It's annoying. To begin with, it's a fascist concept; it's what Hitler and Stalin practiced. It allows for no exceptions or compassion of any kind. All is black and white-no gradations. But even more important, it doesn't solve anything. The use of such a slogan simply allows whichever company, school, or municipality is using it to claim they're doing something about a problem when, in fact, nothing is being done at all and the problem is being ignored. It's a cosmetic nonsolution designed to impress simpletons. Whenever you hear the phrase zero tolerance, remember, someone is bulls**tting you!"

Hello OP I am sure someone would pop in and say this event is not true because it's in PressTV so I am adding other sources here such as Fox,CBS,MSNBC etc

For Conservatives/ Right Wing:
FOX News
NYC Student, 12, Arrested for Doodling on Desk

CBS News
12-Year-Old Arrested for Doodling at Desk

For Left Wing:
MSNBC
NYC student arrested for doodling on desk

For others:
Examiner News:
12-y ear-old Queens student handcuffed and arrested for doodling on desk

Just to cover all bases!!

This is a very unfortunate incident and will impact the mental health of the kid. The Teacher and Cop who did this, should be fired on spot and charged.

After Alexa scribbled her name, the date and a smiley face on her desk during a Spanish class on Monday, her teacher reported her to an assistant principal, who placed a call to cops, city officials said.

The cops arrested Alexa, escorting her out of the school with her hands behind her back in metal handcuffs, Camacho said.

This kid is Latino and her mother is saying it's due to racism.

Just goes to show you how far the school system has fallen and how even farther the justice system has fallen.

Seems like anyone with a bit of power has lost any sign of rational thinking.

Unbelievable! When I was a kid, some student was doodling on his desk in pencil. (Probably in the 60's) The teacher told him to erase it. A few minutes later he was at it again, so she got some kind of cleanser from the janitor's closet, some paper towels, and made the kid scrub every desk top in the class during recess. That was the end of his artwork. Amazingly, no Nazi control techniques were required.

The sad part is, kids are inexperienced and naive, and easily influenced. I'm old enough to remember the Cold War. We heard storied of the Communist/Totalitarian oppression. We had a teacher read some kind of document to the class that was supposed to be from some Communist leader. It said they wouldn't have to invade America; the conversion would take place from within. My young, but already skeptical brain thought this might be American propaganda. Now, I'm not so sure.

What happened to the good old days where you just give the kid a clip over the ear hole and that was end of the matter! Yep we are definitely shifted into Fu*ked up Universe!

That'll show those damn 12 year olds to not deface government property?

Wait what?

It's taxpayer property?

She's 12?

She wrote a loving message?

Fire the principal!

All joking aside, this is ridiculous. Arrested? Really? Who was the a hole cop who decided that was a good idea anyway?
