I'm sorry to see a perfectly decent thread getting trashed with almost entirely off-topic replies. Its obvious to me that you are presenting a hypothetical scenario and if I wasn't interested in it the best option would be ignore the post and move on rather than trash it and insult the topic.

If your hypothetical happened I would first say something like "Holy @#$% I didn't think that was possible to happen so quickly." Then I'd then simply start using the Yen, Euro, or what ever that New Zealand currency is called. I'm sure that is what corporations would be scrambling to do. Over the long term however people would switch to gold, silver, and other commodities as a result.

Fortunately this stuff doesn't happen overnight and so our switch to foreign currency will be slow and our more permanent switch to commodity-backed currencies would be even slower than that.

I did mean to short the dollar some time ago but would have covered my position and possibly "gone long" by now meaning I believe the dollar will strengthen over the next few months.

IMHO, If tommorows Headlines Read "The Dollar Collapsed" then the following days headline would read "Massive Civil Unrest! Martial Law has been Declared"

Isn't that what all the execuive orders that have been created in the last few decades are all about?

BTW I'm now thinking that Ronald Reagan was actually a puppet dictator.
