The ATS Chat Button

Personally I think one of the best features about AboveTopSecret.com is that we get the chance to not only discuss some of the most important subjects in the forum’s but we also get the chance to do it in a real live chat mode, msn style, via ATS chat.

But sadly not many people seem to come into chat it seems apart from a few regular members so im starting this thread trying to promote chat and to also try and get as many people in there as possible so you can debate subjects in an easier and one on one live way or just chat about everyday things.

If you have 200 posts then just click on that above and start chatting away on ATS chat

EDIT: to add 200 posts are needed to enter chat

This is the most under used feature at this site.

It can/could be a great place to gather when there is breaking news.

Or for any reason at all.

It sure beats a yahoo chat.

mine says unregistered guest can not access this now

Oh no sorry I was just checking that’s all lol

Just thought you maybe didn’t notice or anything.

Anyway sometimes when I click on chat an error comes up so to fix it I click off it and try again and it works then, Maybe try it a few times and if it doesn’t work then you might have to ask a MOD for help.

Yeah click it over and over again maybe it will work one day. i've cleared all my cookies and updated my java too. hmm

I'm in there most the time. Chat normally has 4-9 people at night.

Watch out for thecrow001 if you see him in the chat, he's a dissinfo operative.

usually during the day the rooms are empty or near empty, picks up at night usually after 6-7pm.

If you want chat to be used more, it makes sense to remove or lessen some of the restrictions on it.

I can understand the want to not have random idiots make a username and log in, to be a troll. Is that want greater than the want to have members use chat in the first place? If so, then why even have a chat feature?

the problem with chat I think is that 200 posts are needed...

I usually end doing 5-6 posts a day so I'll be waiting a while (along with a lot of others)

should be 50 posts IMO

It lessens the chaos. We believe that after a member has been here long enough to contribute 200 posts, they have at least a familiarity with the site expectations and Terms and Conditions, which also apply in chat, and the BTS Mutter Box.

A chatroom can move quickly, and by nature, is informal. Our experience has shown us that people participating in chat who aren't well versed in the site's requirements of civility and decorum can inadvertently and permanently lose their chat privileges.

The rules in chat are the same as they are on the forums. 200 posts are a good way to gain the necessary experience for participation.

We want members to use chat, if they choose to do so, but the restrictions are absolutely necessary. They won't be going away.
