SHANE MCLEOD: One of Australia's most secretive organisations has opened its doors to the media for the first time in its history.

The spy agency the Defence Signals Directorate has launched a new cyber space security centre to combat thousands of attempts to hack into Australia's Defence computer systems.

It's been opened today by the Defence Minister John Faulkner who's declared cyberspace a "battlefield" and warned the internet has a "dark side."

The launch took place amidst tight...."

Explanation: What do my fellow ATS members think of this?

Personal Disclosure: IMO this "Pit" will soon fill with cyber snakes, sharks, spys and shills and therefor we had better watch out for any sudden and strange influx of new members to ATS. Don't say you weren't warned!

Its funny that you should mention this
. Some new members that just recently joined tried to bash on my thread a few days ago when it first started. I guess over time they will seek to debunk the truth from actual facts then we will have nothing but trolls that stroll on threads real slow and bash on them till they remain very still. $&F for opening my eyes.

Explanation: St*r for SL!

I'd like to call everybodies attention to the following thread by JaxonRoberts, which goes directly to why this DSD Cyberwarfare Dept was created in the 1st place.

Confidential source says Australian IT infrastructure in grave danger of hacking!

Personal Disclosure: I'd like to reveal now that I was and am the "Tin Hat" who was the Confidential Source of that thread!

[JaxonRoberts can confirm this!]

P.S. Thanks JaxonRoberts!

Edited spelling in link. Sigh!

Explanation: Seems that China is on the Rise!

Australia is not the only treasure that the Great Dragon is keenly eyeing.

China will soon have the power to switch off the lights in the West

Also the recent China-Google fallout will have far and wide reaching implications and consequences regarding the ongoing online cyberwar.

Google may pull out of China after Web attacks

Personal Disclosure: But What Goes Around, Comes Around!

Cyberwar breaks out as Iranians hack into Chinese search engine

P.S. Didn't Confucius say something along the lines of "Do unto others as you want done unto oneself!"???

Instead of wasting taxpayers dollars on this crap, maybe they should just spend more time securing their systems. It's ironic that the people who are employed to hack into other countries systems are complaining about being targeted.

Aussies can kiss their internet goodbye later this year when Rudd forces his "filter" upon us.

Wouldn't want all us ignorant citizens getting access to information which isn't from the idiot box or the trash in the newspaper.

Explanation: St*r for you!

Yes, both the filter and the slow rollout of the inefficient Broadband network bodes ill will for transparancy and diclosure in general. Australians KNOW both won't work and yet we are still doing it and PAYING for that pile of turd! :shk:

Can anybody say we Australians totally deserve the "KRudd" we served up to ourselves?

P.S.
People DON'T want to put themselves out of a job. They wouldn't fix it even if they could! DSD found the attacks mentioned in JaxonRoberts thread linked above "Amusing" and that is now quite a telling point about their real attitude to this Cyber-SitX etc.

Edited gramma fail. soz me a

I think Australia is a cursed country/continent. Whether it be having the deadliest critters in the world to having blasphemous heatwaves. Australia can't seem to get a break from the harness of life. Maybe your right about China having their sights on yall.

Edit: Australia deserves better then this and can learn from the mistakes of the past to come up with a solution to the problem.

As one of Australia's Prime Ministers once commented on Oz as "The Arse End of the World!" and we do put up with and deal with a whole load of excrement daily! He wasn't far wrong and you earned a St*r!

WoW! None of you have a Clue, Do you?

You can keep on Crapping on about Australia but, this is one of the greatest Countries in the World to live.

"Aussies can kiss their internet goodbye later this year when Rudd forces his "filter" upon us" Where are your Facts? There aren't any. You're talking crap.

If you agree with the sentiment that "Australia is the Arse end of the World". Go to some other Country and see exactly what the Arse End Of The World really looks like.

Although I don't agree with Rudd much anymore, without his Economy Strategies, we would've gone down with the rest of the world.

For the person who thinks Australia is a Cursed Country, What does that make Haiti?

I just love it when peole haven't got a Real Clue about the Facts and post Rubbish.

Australia is one of the best Counties to live. If you don't like living here, move to America and when you get ill, try and get treatment without a Wallet Full Of Money. Or better still, mouth your rights to a Cop and see where that get's you..

People in Australia just don't appreciate, just how good they've got it.

I wouldn't want to live in any other country in the world.

Agreed. I'm an old bushie, and love this country.

But I still think this filter is an insidious thing to do to our internet. Once it's in place it's like the no-fly list. So easy to keep adding "annoying" sites to, and once they are on it, you can't access them to see they're gone, so you never know what you're missing.

Don't get all butt-hurt now. Ill admit that there are worse countries when it comes to poverty and tyranny, but you cant argue that Austrailia's got some of the most lethalist animals around the globe. Your jellyfish and other poisionous critters pretty much put undeserving people in body bags.

I read this "hack into Australia's Defence computer systems. "

I don't see this as a measure to investigate what we are doing. IMO nothing to be worried about..

However the internet filter that the Labour govt wants to bring in is definitely stepping peoples freedoms.

The filter is a topic of heated debate no doubt - but it will be mediated by the people.

As far as i am concerned, locking out child porn is in one way a good thing, however it is still the only way that the cops are able to trace Pedo's - so without the ability to see them dl'ing their kiddy porn, i fear for the safety of the children surrounding where they live.

Interesting times, but it's not going to be brought in yet, in fact the trial was successful however was knocked back and therefor will not be put in place this year, if anything they will have the parliament vote on it again in 2011.

Might want to reconsider that statement.

Explanation: I was in ATS java Chat and subject of shills came up and I went to find this link to paste in there for my fellow members viewing pleasure!

Unfortunately by random or deliberate design I instantly had network and broadband router issues!

This was similar to the issues I originally had in trying to post this subject [now nearly 2yrs old] on ATS in the 1st place!

I bring this thread to my fellow members attentions to show JUST HOW DEEP the rabbit hole in regards to PAID shills goes ok!

Personal Disclosure: Oh and btw ... I TOLD YOU SO!

P.S. As my username is still active in ATS chat [meaning I cant rejoin just yet ...
] I apologize to my fellow chat members for this slight delay and roundabout method of getting this info to you all!

Sorry about any inconvenience caused by this minor hassle and I hope to be back in Chat asap!

Explanation: OL lives in Canberra ... so I will get my gf to drive me around the CBD until I locate it directly as I am a little leary of using Google Earth [and or maps] to find the exact place for us both to have a good look!

Personal Disclosure: I will post on that asap! But if you want to go look for yourself as I cannot provide such details immediately, that you access maps of Canberra and look around the CBD and especially around whats known as RUSSEL OFFICES! (near the war memorial to the east towards the airport and befor you get to Duntroon Army Baracks at base of Mt Ainsley.)

P.S. Sorry about any delays or inconvenience this causes you!
