You are correct. A small squadron of F-22s are stationed at Holloman AFB. They will normally not perform maneuvers that will put them over the
'sound barrier' but when and if they do, the military will inform news agencies and cities of impending maneuvers.
Tell ya what...they are a sight to see and I surely do miss seeing them daily roll by on the ramp on my way to work...
I live in South east UK and about 3-4 months ago i woke up
to a Big boom around 4:30am and what sounded like a jet
flying away, also nearly everyone i know in the area woke
up to this to.
now ive been to several air shows and have
seen the sound barrier broken many times
and this is the only thing i could think of the
boom that woke me was.
But the question is why would there be a jet
braking the sound barrier over a populated
area at 4:30am?
Russians testing the Air Defenses, although we in the UK generally wont hear about these incidents (if at all) for some weeks after they occur. Also
some pilots already on sortee might report UFO activity and would want back-up, or recon as a matter of procedure.
