Ron Jeremy says violent video games 'worse' than porn

If he's so concerned about real violence, he should go preach in Iraq or Afghanistan. There are more important issues at home to debate, rather than this ancient relic of a discussion.

well said, there is a litany of degradation, suffering and abuse behind much of the porn you can view

I would have to disagree with mr jeremy. for me and many people i know violent video games had no impact on our lives.....but porn thats a whole other matter. it really is destructive i've seen what any addiction can have on a family and porn is no different and i guarantee nobody on here can give it up.

I agree.

I seriously don't know how some of these people can look another human in the eye after noticing some of the brutal stuff that lurks on the net.

Okay - i'm not completely sour - i can see how some types of 'basic porn' is not too bad if it's between consentual agreement and such... But how on earth can you prove half of the stuff that leaks into the non-mainstream domain?

But people are extremely naive if they believe that all porn is fun. I think this is all i have to say on the matter.

My thoughts are these. First , if a person is that ignorant that they can be influenced negatively by any artistic medium, be it film, tv or games, then they are a crappy excuse for a person anyway , and hopefully will be removed by natural selection.
Second, where as sexual predators and porn have a history that goes back a long long time, computer games containing violence probably have a lot less to do with gang culture and violence than hip hop and gangster movies ever do.
Yes its true that if a young person plays a game meant for adults containing violent themes , then sure they may be affected. But I think thats much less about the games themselves than about the people who let kids play them . When I was a kid violence was rife in both my Primary and secondary schools, and computer gaming wasnt super prevalent in those days really.
There is nothing wrong with computer games having an element of violence in them. When I am annoyed , I play a gory game, and let off some steam which is alot better than going out and battering some poor sap for no reason lets face it. I think its all a matter of how you take it . Its like drinking. Some drunks are idiots and brawlers. Some are chilled out and very difficult to annoy... Just because there are complete morons in the world , does not mean that alcohol ought to be banned. It means morons ought to be kept in check with electric shocks and behaviour modification, or anything that allows well adjusted folk to carry on as normal, i.e. drinking, playing whatever the hell games they like, and still being upstanding members of society.

So far mr-lizards is the best post - clean and simple. To the point.

The porn industry is a terrible industry that degrades and destroys human beings.

The video game industry might take advantage of parents pocket books, but in reality when someone does harm to another person and blames video games, chances are these people had underlying issues that were not caused because of the video game, and that underlying issue would have caused harmed anyways, without the influence of video games.

Yes there are studies that show violence in video games does trigger certain brain patterns, however, these are the same brain waves created by watching an action film, war scene in the news, and reading about violence in news papers.

So lets not assume that an industry that turns our children into couch potatos is as bad (in any way) as an indsutry that causes the degredation, destruction and demoralization of hundreds of thousends of young Americans and Multinational citizens.

For the record, I play video games, I've worked in the industry, I sold them, I made them. When people are creating video games, they aren't thinking "Whats the best way we can make humanity look horrifying and evil?"

They're usually thinking "Whats the best way to discuss moral imparatives and realism."

People often forget that the creation of a video game is art. Most Porn in my opinion is not art. Some is, but some is also empowering.

Most however, like what Ron Jerermy did, are not.

Is it that the violence harms or destroys another individual.....therefore bad. But the porn seems to be pleasurable and therefore is desirable or acceptable to act upon? That there is some sort of moral line involved that says death and destruction bad, pleasure good......must try.

the porn involves actual human beings carrying out physical acts (unless yer bag is that cartoon porn stuff), games do not involve actual human beings being killed.

The point would only be valid in terms of someone actually killing compared with someone actually screwing a MILF

Right, well heres the thing. If you go out looking for some nasty porn, then you probably wanted to watch some. I would say if you wanted to see that , you already had a damned problem so thats that one covered.
Seperate to that, playing a computer game is a different and interactive ideal . First of all , if you play a computer game of any sort, the most active part of your mind is going to be the one that assimilates the environment of the game, the factors involved in surviving the environment , and the mechanical section of your brain allowing you to press the right buttons. You are dealing with a bunch of sprites in a hypothetical scenario, which requires igenuity to overcome. Its a mental challenge first and a gore fest second or maybe even third. You play for the sake of the game first , and the sray of victory is a bonus, just polish on an already marvelous table you know ?
Thats how I play . Its a mechanical process , and the only real enjoyment is of beating the game , and its creators. Its a one up , I solved the puzzle! I got through ! Its a test of intelligence , reflexes. Its a damned challenge!
People who are going to go out and do people damage are often broken by abuse in the home, or abuse from peers, or in extreme cases are just born wrong... theres been plenty of history to back this up .
Was Jack the Ripper playing doom when he was a baby ? Was Ed Gein some sort of Unreal Tournement demon in high school? Nope they were JUST messed up in the godamned head , and I dont think theres any cure for that cept electric chairs and small rooms with bars at one end.

exactly one is virtual and the other is real. It seems to me that people are ok with the virtual/fake violence. Interestingly, people seem to also be ok with real degradation and whatever else occurs in these films, as I'm sure most viewers aren't watching virtual porn. So here's a question, virtual child porn is legal. Does that make ok? I mean, it's virtual, it's fake. IMO, it is not.
