Kalifornia Re-Institutes Slavery

Fascist Soup reports:

"We have lots and lots of work to do. But we didn’t dig the hole," said Cliff Brandt. "I’m 66 years old and I came back to work because if I don’t, I can’t pay for my car . . . Nobody should work and not get paid. I think they used to have a word for it. It’s called slavery."

The Kakistocracy in Kalifornia has deemed it necessary to enslave its workforce.

As in all good socialist utopias, the serfs primary job is to support the common good, typically at gun point, with no regard to their own personal well being or self-interests.

I know 99.9% of DMV workers are Dems, so part of me wants to LOL at the sweet justice of it all. But the other half of me is furious over what is taking place. No one should be forced into slavery.

This scenario of forced labor at the hands of the State is typical of socialist utopias.

This Kyiv Post article slams the point home:

If there is one thing that perplexes me most about Ukrainians, it is their willingness to work without pay. I am not talking about volunteerism. Getting Ukrainians to volunteer their time and effort for a good cause is a tough sell. I’m talking about working at a job 40 or more hours a week and not getting a salary. They earn a salary, but don’t get it. Few professions are immune: Teachers. Doctors. Police. Miners. Farmers. Soldiers. Factory workers. And it’s not just employees; add to the list those who are owed stipends, pensions or other government assistance, such as veterans, retirees, students, mothers on maternity leave, etc.

The Kyiv Post is a Ukrainian newspaper, obviously the Ukrainians know a thing or two about totalitarian government. Stalin wiped out around 5 million of them during the dekulakization.

I bet you didn’t even know dekulakization was a word.

You’re going to be hearing it a whole lot more as Kalifornia’s economy self-detonates under Dem authoritarian rule.

For the most part, DMV workers are low skilled and get paid quite well compared to other workers with comparable skill sets. Having DMV workers work a few days without pay is like adjusting their wages back to market level.

As the Ukrainian newspaper points out for us, such "adjustments" are common in socialist utopias.

Praise Stalin for I am too dumb to work for pay.

Naaa...it's slavery. If you want to renegotiate their wage, that's one thing, but making them work for free is another. One might want to strip it of all the partisan rhetoric, though.

So...are they unionised?

Have they sued?

This ain't over by a long shot.

I think they are unionized, but as the guy says, they don't really have a choice.

They either work for no pay or get canned.

This isn't a furlough, furloughs mean you just don't work period and don't get paid.

This is slavery.

Now there's a collective agreement I'd like to see!

The DMV workers are not slaves, though. They are free to quit. Of course most of them know that nobody will give them a good job, even in a good economy. The only reason why they are anchored to their jobs is that they are overpaid at the taxpayer's expense.

So quitting your job (which means you don't get unemployment) during a depression is a viable alternative to working for no pay.

Your support for Stalin has been duly noted.

Obama's Job Czar will be sending you an autographed photo and award certificate for your loyalty.

Sounds kinda Fascist to me...workers have rights. But I'm gonna backtrack a little on what I've said.

In Ontario, we had Rae Days back in the 80's. The Province cut one day a month out of our job...as an alternative to lay-offs. The wage loss was flattened out over the course of a year, and the days off were added to Christmas, etc. The impact was reduced, and the guy next to me kept his job.

So what's happening here is that the State is dictating when workers take the time off:

Workers will now work every Friday, including Furlough Fridays, and accrue furlough time. Officials explained they'll still be docked three days a month, but they will take furlough days at a later date. www.news10.net...

The story is, then, more than what it seems, given the Communist posters and all.

But being forced to volunteer to work is criminal...and to say that one should accept it or quit is aiding and abetting...and that's why employers get unions.

Being virtually coerced into working as a slave still pretty much makes one a slave, IMO.

Horrible state of affairs, this.

Yeah the State is dictating that they will receive comped off time in the future.

However, that's a joke as the Ukraine points out for us.

Kalifornia's economy is finished.

Its toast.

The comp time supposedly to be awarded in the future will never materialize. The Ukraine article makes this very clear. This is how bankrupt State's operate. This is how they con and control the masses.

Kalifornia has a budget shortfall in the tens of billions of dollars. In order to balance the budget, it would require eliminating most of the prison programs, most of the education programs, and reducing social services to near zero.

That will never happen.

Ever.

You are all about free markets and against socialism, right? Shouldn't the DMV be able to go out in the labor market and hire workers at market rate?

Well having the DMV workers work unpaid furlough days is the equivalent to having the DMV workers take a market rate for their labor. If these workers do not like the deal, there are plenty of workers out there who will gladly take it.

Yes, the DMV should be able to hire its workers at market rate. If that was the case, the workers wouldn't be working without pay.

However paying market wages for labor isn't the reason why the DMV is hosed. Its hosed due to the fact that the DMV is a government run institution that has no incentive to reduce cost or increase efficiency.

In a privatized market, the DMV would be forced to compete with other agencies on operating cost, efficiency, and quality of service. This competition would have kept salaries at market rates naturally and would have kept the business streamlined.

If the DMV was bloated, slow, and inefficient, customers would simply go to a competing agency to get their paper work taken care of.

Forgive me for saying, but I don't think you can use the Ukrainian example as evidence of how California will fare.

Nice try though...dump the rhetoric, learn some economics 101 and a little poli-sci.

I see you don't believe in history as a basis for predicting future events.

What's taking place in CA right now is EXACTLY the same as what is taking place in the Ukraine right now.

For the exact same reasons.

The Ukraine is based upon a failed communist state...California is not. You're reaching...

Buddy, there is no difference between how CA operates and how the Ukraine operates.

Ever read the communist manifesto?

It has been fully implemented in this country today.

Centralized bank? - check
State control of resources? - check
State control of healthcare, social services, and education? - check

In a free capitalist society, markets would set interest rates, money would be created by market functions, social services would be run by the private sector, and resources would be managed by property rights rather than bureaucrats.

Go try to farm your land, mine your land, drill for oil on your land, or do ANYTHING on your land without state permission once.

Good luck.

I'd say both of our opinions carry the weight of just that...opinion.

Talk to you in six months!

If this doesn't get people in California in the streets waving their fist, absolutely nothing, and I do mean nothing, will.

Maybe they prefer to do it riot style out there.

See my signature below and my flag to the left from the canceled TV show, Jericho.

Let me give you all some unpopular advice; since the state of California and the US Federal government have decided to throw out the rules when it comes to money, you might want to decide (and I do mean right now) but bills you MUST pay and what bills you can start throwing in the garbage.

Use the money that used to go to the credit cards to start stocking up on what you will really need when it all hits the fan.

Good luck America. The end, as we know it, really is near.
