January 8th of 2009 had a 4.9. Does this have any significance?

I was talking to my son, who lives in the area, on the phone. All of a sudden he shouts, "Holy sh**!! I think we're having an earthquake!" It turned out that he was standing on a cement dock on the bay at Eureka, and he said it made him stagger.

He could see a couple of kayakers on the bay, but they didn't seem to notice it. He said that seconds before it hit, all the birds on the water flew off. I asked him if poles and wires were swaying and he said yes. I thought it might have been a close 5pointer.

He had to go to a meeting, so we said goodbye. But when I found out the magnitude, I called him back and had to leave a message. He returned the call after his meeting, but he was not home yet (8 miles north on the bay). I told him to call me when he got home.

He just called from home. His tv is fine (I knew he was fine, but I was concerned about the tv!), but he said the power was out in various areas of all the towns around the area, and he was getting flashlights from his car. Six blocks away, the power was on, but not at his block. Don't know how long before power is restored, but he will keep warm wearing extra clothing. I think he has gas for cooking.

There are other people living at the house, and some had started to return home already, so he had to check with them to see if any had damages in their rooms, plus check the old house for damage, but he said it was probably ok.

Are These Earthquake Clouds? Just Curious, Taken in Pismo beach This Evening

Hello,
Is that photo taken in pismo anywhere close to James Way?
As for the clouds showing signs of Earthquake; I used to fear when I was a young lad that during an Earthquake, the sky too would split apart! They (clouds) look like rain clouds to me!

I'm not 100% positive we are seeing after shocks.

Time will tell shortly i guess.

In case you are not following the Quake Watch 2010 thread (and by the way, you should if you're interested in this one) there was just a 4.0 aftershock in the North an a 4.1 on the Baja border in the South within three minutes of eachother. (And that's the end of me cross posting)

Interesting enough, if it's any crediability.. or even anything at all, but Web-bot suggested a massive earthquake for the western united states come late July, early August.

And its January?

I'm not trying to be mean but if they predicted it for july or august, why would that be relevant?

I've been watching the recent string of quakes as well ever since October and it hasn't felt right. We've seen a huge rise in the number of 4.0+ recent events, with an average of four 6.0 a week somewhere around the world. Then there was the news that the sea lions suddenly left Pier 39. Did some research and checking on that, and they completely abandoned the Pacific plate, going to Oregon instead. The aftershocks of this 6.5 seem to be building up, following patterns similar to the big ones in October/November. If this thing "snaps", it could be huge. All this though is just an informed guess. Here is a map overlay.. "A" is Pier 39, the red dot is an approx of where the sea lions went, and the blue is the 6.5 quake. Note that the two maps are "not" to scale, but easy enough to see where they should be.

Ok nervous in So. Cal and I didn't even feel it. Been following this thread and the others. Can't sleep decided to post. I've lived in Calif. all my life,
well I'm getting ahead of myself already. I said I was nervous right?
Ok I been here and that's it. I don't even get bothered by quakes, but!
for one thing I can tell you back in feb 71 I was just 12 years of
age.
That quake hit in the morning followed by shaking the night before up
north. That damn quake tossed me up off of my bed moved it out from under me by 3 ft. I didn't even wake up until I landed on my football,
my baseball bat, and my Fort Apache that were stashed under neath my bed.
i still can remember my mom coming in the room trying to hold her self up.
That was a scary fricken ride and no one gets used to that.
Did I mention I was nervous?

When I look at the USA map and see that new Line of Quakes.I can just
see all of that Id.NE. UT.CA. breaking off and going bye bye.
I told you I was nervous.

Donegal in the North west of Ireland had a 1.6 quake in the last day or so. Wonder if there may be a link to this? Just thought it might be of interest.

I live in northern Ca and I did not feel a thing.... I live in the Owens Valley, 45min away from Mammoth Mt. Even if I did feel it a 6.0 would just be fun.
