The bad news came via certified letter to Norma Jimenez, Edna Rodriguez and nearly 17,000 other Puerto Ricans this month.

To cut spending, Puerto Rico announced last month that thousands of government employees would be fired in the second round of layoffs this year. More than 7,800 public employees were fired in March.

"Will the letter come or not come?"

The letter came, and it said that under a measure authorized by an emergency fiscal bill her last day of work would be January 8 of next year.

"It was as if the world collapsed," she told CNN.

The article is actually dated Oct. 22 but it is one of the most popular articles on CNN today. Odd. Are the effects just being seen now?

Oooh, we can only WISH that would happen in CONUS.

I can't find actual statistics, but I recall that 9% of the population works for the US Federal Government. If population is 305M, that makes for 55M in the Federal government alone! Let's say another 55M work in all states and cities combined, that's 110M. OK, so those numbers are not accurate statistics, but we do know from ftp.bls.gov... there are 138M of us employees.

So 138M are supporting 110M leeches?!?! Not counting those who don't want to work?
