Edith Sherwood is right regarding the voynich that it is derived from Italian Anagrams, however after deep inspection none of her code made any sense of the voynich. Within in my book you can find out who wrote the voynich glyphs, pictures of where it was authored, decoded paragraphs, The Rosetta Wheel decoded and finally all of folio 67r which represents the astrology.

Am I the only old witch around here looking at what she has deciphered though and thinking, that's not what that is?

I recognize a lot of those roots, and they are not under the names that they should be?

IE those roots don't line up with those names. I don't know all the roots in the world, but I do know quite a few.

When I look at it, I see an attempt at trying to make the connections of the plants, roots, astrology, and the realms of heaven.Sorta like Crowley's 777 does. (better)

Out of curiosity, which of the roots are you able to identify most conclusively?

I have the transcribed Voynich Manuscript in my computer and have run a few scans on it for fun.

It's claimed that the manuscript was written in two different "languages" or "encodings", so it's often split into parts A and B.

I've extracted some stats for VM-A and VM-B and compared them with the corresponding stats for portions of different texts such as:
- Pliny's natural history (latin)
- Bible (latin)
- Bible (hebrew)

What stands out in the VM text is the excessive repetition of some word fragments. For example, looking at the most common fragments composed of three characters, we get the following - where the first row lists the most popular three-letter fragments, the second row lists the occurrence, and the third row lists the corresponding occurrence percentages - relative to the total number of three-letter fragments in the document.

As you can see the Voynich Manuscript contains alot more repetition than the other texts - this seems to rule out Hebrew
though Latin is certainly a candidate - even if it is more moderate in this aspect.

Note that for Hebrew, i've replaced the characters to use the English alphabet - since we're only looking at stats.

The possible use of anagrams can account for certain patterns, such as the consecutive use of the same letter more than two times which happens often enough. However, if this is the case, then there must have been some deterministic process by which the resulting word is generated, otherwise even the author would have a hard time decoding.

Why would the NSA have such a strong interest in debunking this ? That causes klaxons to sound in my head.

It would be interesting to get this woman's take on this document the NSA has. By the way.. got a link to that document? Perhaps we can go over both that document and her work and try to find the real conspiracy here.

In Computer Science, whenever you can't solve a problem, the best you can do is attempt to explain why it is unsolvable.

Plus, if you're funding something you want to get some sort result. - what's the alternative? "In the following document we show how we attempted and failed to decode the Voynich Manuscript for X tax-payer dollars" .

The area of cryptography is of high interest to governments worldwide, in fact they are one of the main sponsors of research in the field, with particular impact on the area of Quantum Computation. It's a matter of national security.

Did you know that if China were to develop a Quantum Computer, they would be able to decipher virtually all encrypted network transmissions? If you want a conspiracy theory i'd start thinking about what the U.S. government will do if they ever get a viable Quantum Computer and are thus able to eavesdrop on, or even impersonate, all web traffic.

Yeah...she's wrong! The Voynich MS was written in the most perfect form of ancient Hebrew dialect ever to be written or spoken; and I can read it. I know that it is the account of a young man that has been banished from his home and his family, never to see them again.

It is a very sad story filled with a colossal amount of regret and a resolute desire for repentance. It is the story of "Poar" and the account of his crimes, his trial and his subsequent banishment from his homeland and family.

It is a sad story!

No it is not derived from Italian anything!! The Voynich MS was written in the most ancient form of Hebrew dialect ever to be written and I can read it. I know EXACTLY what it says. I know where it came from and I know that the boy who wrote it was called, "Poar"! reply to: voynichman

That's very interesting, what kind of Hebrew dialect was that? Can you give us some examples of translation? People often claim they can do so many things on the Internet that it's very difficult to believe someone without proof.
