crashed below 50% approval

Below 50% is hardly unusual. I find it far more interesting that his highest rating of 69% ever is comparable to the lowest "high" ratings since world war 2. Nixon's highest rating, for example, was 67%.

Don't get me wrong, I wish I could agree with you. I am no fan of the Obama administration, not at all. I just can't write them off this early. Three years is an eternity in politics.

The Congressional Democrats? Now those guys are probably screwed. They're going to be the ones to bear the brunt of the coming anti-incumbent wave in 2010 and you're right, the independents are jumping like rats from a sinking ship right now. Unless there's a significant shift in the political winds by the end of this upcoming spring, I wouldn't be at all shocked if they lose well over 50 seats in the House and lose their majority in that chamber entirely. They'll very likely lose a few in the Senate as well, but not enough seats are up for re-election for them to lose the majority outright.

What's over? Bush's final approval rating was 22%, at least it seems to matter somewhat to Obama.

Not that I think Obama isn't a tool, but seriously, you're trying really hard.

So when logic is brought around threads like this die?

I think this thread is very valid, whether its for or against Obama, this is something that people should be discussing.

It makes me wonder, is it because it takes a little thought and research that subjects like this die on these boards?

Have we become so complacent and so weak minded that we only reply to subjects that favor knee jerk reactions?

I believe that the OP has posted a statement that honestly deserves review.
I dont agree with it, but i believe its a good post up for debate.

What say you ATS, shall we shy away from things that require some thought, or do we only react to the subjects that require us not to think?

As they say, "it ain't over til the fat lady sings" and after only 11 months in office, I don't think the fat lady is even getting warmed up yet. So, I don't think it's over.

Obama is smart. If he wants a second term, I believe he will do whatever is necessary to get it. If it means toning down his policies, he'll do it. But the problem is, as someone mentioned, with Pelosi and Reid. If those two remain in charge of the House and Senate, it might be some rough going for Obama.

I heard on Fox this AM that Obama said, while he was in China, that he wasn't sure he would run for a second term. I thought that was quite interesting. I haven't had the time to see if I can find any reports from other sources if he really said this, so am skeptical. But, if he did indeed say it, kinda makes me wonder if he is so determined to get his policies passed and knows that by doing so it will skewer his chance of being re-elected or if maybe he has figured out that being President isn't such a great job and would rather be back in the Senate, with Acorn or teaching.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see what develops.

i'm interested to see how this healthcare program (if it passes) will play into the 2012 election. the program won't be up and running until after 2012 so of course, obama will be in full swing fear mongering mode about the future of his 'landmark' legislative accomplishment.

then there will be 2+ years of taxes with no extra healthcare benefits, plus the market's (downward i would guess) adjustment.

ofcourse this only matters if unemployment is somewhere between 6-7. if its under 6 or above 8, i think jobs control this guy's future.

Patience is a virtue that many on ATS must learn! Obama's doing his best.

I just have to ask, did you feel the same way about Bush?

Yes, or no, will do.

[edit on 063030p://bFriday2009 by Stormdancer777]

I waited a long time. By the time of the second election, I wanted Bush removed.

That was four years, Storm.

You want Obama when not ONE YEAR HAS GONE BY.

Oh please, after Obama there will be another government plant, with a different face and the same agenda.

Wake up.

Do any of you actually believe that Obama cares about polls now, or about reelection?

Pfffft!

Do any of you remember when he said in an interview (paraphrasing) that he "may only be a one term president"?

He knew beforehand how unpopular his agenda was going to be, that is why he has pushed so hard to get it all done so early into his presidency.

The extreme left are not wasting their opportunity to destroy the captialist free market system while nationalizing everything they can and through reforms socializing the nation despite the constitution and the will of the people.

Freedom be damned, and even reelection to the presidency as long as certain unstoppable goals are achieved.

You will become painfully aware of the depth of fraud and the corruption of this presidency and congress when it is all too late... in fact it already is.

You've been duped... They don't need your votes now... You can take your polls and shove it... Can you hear them snickering now?

Really, i think the ONLY thing that is going to save obama's presidency, and posibly re election...is bringin back american made* it creats jobs for americans! not over in china....
Bring back made in america, home of the brave, land of the free* at least with american made stuff, its going to work be it what it is. Mae in china, raioative, possible tainted with un inspected chemcials off a sweatshop labor team, breaks 3 to 4 months of use, and goes right into OUR landfill, not china's.

The President still has time to do things right. If you want him to do something differently, respectfully say so. There is a thread called NOTES to President Obama from Humanity. Use it. Im sure the cia or nsa or some snooper will make sure he sees our notes. We have to believe that he cares about America. He is our only hope right now. At least he isnt like "you betcha" who gets her panties in a twist and just leaves.

With all due respect, the president or anyone in government for that matter is not going to read any notes to the president posted here at ATS in your thread.

Do you people really believe they give a damn?

The only way you may get their attention is if you threaten the life of the president, and that alone would likely only get you a visit from the secret service or the FBI, the end result .... mucho badness and a cell with some real bad guys for a long time in a prison somewhere.

Since you are taking notes for the president, please pass mine along to him since apparently you seem to think you can....

Dear President Obama,

I was once a proud American, once believed in the principles which this country was founded upon, I had a dream, I had a future, I was headed down a path to success and "the good life" ... That all changed when I encountered a corrupt government agency and learned first hand just how bad things truly are.

Your administration, and most of the elected congressional majority you so proudly use to rule this nation are a part of that corruption, and are stealing the American people's tax revenues while destroying the economy. Your interests and intentions are not what is best for this country, you cannot lie anymore, your actions speak louder now than your words.

Thanks for nothing, Keep the change.

Sincerely,

OnePissedOffAmerican.

The teacher is doing the right thing, but hugely unpopular. This is Obama's problem.. He is ruling over a nation of dingbats who wouldn't know what was best for them if it smacked them in the face. So yeah.. he's unpopular cause he don't be doin what Beck dun says he outta be doin en all that there sumfin. He all socialist tryin ta kill my grandma and my job pespects ain't lookin good fer nothin hes worst president we dun ever hayd that darn elitist.

He will wait for the right time when his approval ratings are really low, and then pop something huge to pull his ratings back up......watch n see

hes been waiting and waiting on the war in the big sand box, my guess is he will use that , at least in part to bump his ratings up, but me thinks hes got more in store to "bring the people" back....

His approval will drop even more if we get attacked.
...and even further still if he quickly pulls the troops.

Learning, working, and no more junk food? Frankly, I think Obama is full of more junk food than anything else. But that's only true I suppose if you consider junk food to be a big 'ol mess of waste disguised as something edible and filling.

As for all work and no play? I'm not even going to bother listing all of Obama's varying excursions -- not to mention the vacations/trips that wifey and the kids take all on our dime -- but I really don't think one can say that Obama is all work and no play with a straight face. And no, I could care less about how many vacations Bush took -- I'm tired of playing the "tallest pygmy game". My only point: When Fort Hood went down, do you know where Obama went? Here's a hint: it wasn't Fort Hood.....

One of the things you have to remember is that Clinton had low approval ratings in the first term of his Presidency as well. Especially in 1994 when Newt Gingrich rose to power as the House Speaker with his Contract for America.

The only prediction that I have is that I think in 2010, you will see Democrats AND Republicans lose a lot of seats in the upcoming Congressional elections. I think the atmosphere is right for a huge victory for Third Parties or people who are falling in line with the Ron Paul side of the Republican Party. Having said that, you still have to look to Yogi Berra for this one and say to yourself, "it ain't over till it's over".
