What about those that love themselves too much?

You could argue that this isn't true love for thyself, but it is an affection, a compliance, and acceptance, but more importantly, its an amplification of the go to love thyself to the extreme. Love has it's fine line, and to love thyself is the most difficult thing to get right, before you can love others. It can be difficult to love thyself and learn not to cross the line in narcissism/egotism/self-obsession, because that will cause, funnily enough, the complete opposition in being able to love others. You will spew hatred.

very valid points.

but if the love is pure and true, how can it ever be too much, even (or especially) when directed toward self?

that can only lead to the ultimate perfection of soul which is unity and individuality, balanced and concurrent

Some of these made me tear up. Don't tell anybody.

When a group of professionals posed the question, "What does love mean?" to a group of children between the ages of 4 and 8, they got answers that were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See for yourself:

"Love is that first feeling you feel before all the bad stuff gets in the way."

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth."

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."

"Love is when someone hurts you. And you get so mad but you don't yell at them because you know it would hurt their feelings."

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him to make sure the taste is OK."

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss."

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate."

"Love is hugging. Love is kissing. Love is saying no."

"When you tell someone something bad about yourself and you're scared they won't love you anymore. But then you get surprised because not only do they still love you, they love you even more."

"There are two kinds of love: Our love and God's love. But God makes both kinds of them."

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well."

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore."

"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night."

"Love is when mommy gives daddy the best piece of chicken."

"Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford."

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."

"I let my big sister pick on me because my Mom says she only picks on me because she loves me. So I pick on my baby sister because I love her."

"Love cards like Valentine's cards say stuff on them that we'd like to say ourselves, but we wouldn't be caught dead saying."

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you."

"Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross."

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."

That's absolutely true. People who love themselves in exaggerated ways aren't really "loving", they are praising themselves, trying to be brighter than the light itself. Or even believing that THEY ARE the light itself.
It's a thin line between loving yourself and becoming a narcissist...

In a way, thanks OP for this thread... sometimes you lost the way and need to be hitted by a huge brick to come back to the track. S+F

But do you not see brother/sister?

To love one self and to love others is the same.

To love one self so much that you disregard and mistreat others, is just as equal as the opposite for is all is one. All is beautiful no matter how malignant or benevolent it may seem. For all paths lead back to unity.

That's just it, to believe you are "God" and all others are your servants, or what have you, is equally as beautiful as the contrary.

All is the One Infinite Creator and all are equally as beautiful in experience to the one being that all is.

This is incorrect, for all things all of existence is infinity.

sure,
but the thread title is not called "the infinity we call Love"
which I would be completely fine with.

If Love is given a finite value however,
my addition to the discussion,
is that number would be 2.

So I say to you brothers and sisters, where is the love?
[edit on 7-12-2009 by Psychonaughty]

holding us together.

matter is held together by love for instance.

the purpose here is to be ONE
with eachother, sharing LOVE~

let us treat individual perceptions
of our truth, and
the discrepancies among these, any
way as individual tones, each
all contributing to a divine resonance, to
which our individual voice is integral~

this Earth has plenty truth of mind...
will we extend truth of heart, to
planet people animal, even
when individual tones resonant meagerly~

see,
we are the one we call LOVE
One LOVE as individual,
One LOVE as species,
One LOVE as planet....
infinite in planes above and below~

now,
let us remember that we are energy,
we carry a frequency signature,
a vibration of LOVE,
individually and collectively,
as we carry this LOVE in our hearts,
into the world and our interactions,
we transform the subtle levels,
the patterns of creation~

THE ONE WE CALL LOVE IS YOU.
THE MORE YOU'S ARE LOVE,
THEN THE ONE WE CALL LOVE IS WE

LOVE

All is one.

All all infinite, all fragments of the omnipotent being creating with infinite possibilites with free will.

Infinity.

That which is infinite cannot be many, for many-ness is a finite concept. To have infinity you must identify or define the infinity as unity; otherwise, the term does not have any referent or meaning. In an Infinite Creator there is only unity. You have seen simple examples of unity. You have seen the prism which shows all colors stemming from the sunlight. This is a simplistic example of unity.

Namaste brothers and sisters, may the light be with you.
