6 Year Old Floating Over Colorado In Experimental Craft (balloon that looks like a flying saucer)

www.thedenverchannel.com

A 6-year-old boy is floating over northeastern Colorado in a homebuilt balloon and authorities are racing to try and rescue him.

The balloon, in the shape of a flying saucer is covered in foil and filled with helium. It has a compartment for a passenger underneath. It lifted the boy into the air near Fort Collins Thursday morning after the balloon became untethered at the boy's home.

What kind of a craft is this? How did the boy get inside and then get airborne? Who is responsible for this? How will they try to rescue him? This is the weirdest story I've seen. They said he could get up to 10,000 feet!

The father and son had apparently been working on the aircraft for some time.

Fort Collins police and other authorities have been alerted and Airtracker 7 has launched in an effort to locate the boy.

Airtracker 7 located the craft at 12:35 p.m. at about 8,000 feet in Weld County. It appeared to be slightly tilted.

Skies in the area are partly cloudy and southwest wind speeds are 15 to 20 miles per hour.

"It is believed the device could rise to 10,000 feet," said Eloise Campanella, Larimer County Sheriff's Officer spokeswoman.

Deputies from Larimer and Weld counties are tracking the balloon as it drifts.

I'd imagine it must be really cold. The poor kid has been in there for 2 hours so far.

This is really bad.
I think a better idea would be to try an intercept using a motorized paraglider.

At least NORAD will be able to track it. The worst thing would be if they lost track of it.

Definetly praying for the little guy to have a safe landing, damn they cant get some type of rope or net to slow him down and direct him like with a small weight on it to weigh the ballon down a litte to slow its speed.

Accdg to the weather center there it should be about 50 degrees, with 25 mph wind gusts.

And there's a chance that he's not in there. His mother is hoping that he's hiding somewhere on the ground after he let the balloon loose. They have a huge ground search going on also.

So, let's hope he's not in the balloon after all. Talk about tense.

Why can't they fly above it with a helicopter and like, I dunno, sky hook it or something, or like someone said, net it???

Do you think they could drop ballast onto it using that glider Phage?
